In addition to new desciplines in Entomology, work on networking, collaborations and welfare of Entomologists will be discussed. Existing societies of entomology will be roped in to form a strong foundation for Entomology as science and for young upcoming entomologists. Your active participation and generous contribution for the success of the meet is highly solicited. Given below are the details for your information and needful. Prologue Insects constitute the largest group of living organisms on the earth. Besides, they are the most diverse and cosmopolitan creatures closely associated with mankind both as friends and foes. Rightly, the subject of Entomology, in simple terms insect science, has been evolving with changing times. Entomology encompasses Agricultural Entomology, Medical Entomology, Veterinary Entomologyand Forensic Entomology. Though being an important subject, for reasons not known, there has been a conspicuous lacunae in the coordination, networking and synergy between different groups of Entomologists in the country. This might be due to a lack of suitable platform to facilitate the interaction and exchange of ideas among entomologists in the country. Keeping this in view, in the recent past there have been efforts to organize National level meets of Entomologists. The first of its kind was held at the erstwhile Project Directorate of Biological Control (presently NBAIR),Bengaluru in 2011, thanks to the initiative taken by Dr. N. K. Krishna Kumar, an eminent entomologist of international repute. More than 500 entomologists representing different fields of specializations from across the country attended the meeting. This was followed by another gathering in February 2015 at ICAR-Indian Institute of Natural Resins and Gums, Ranchi. In order to sustain the momentum and the preparedness toface the emerging challenges in the field of Entomology, the present National Meet of Entomologists-2016 is being organized. National Meet of Entomologists – 2016 Brochure Theme Areas I Biosystematics, Biodiversity , Biological Control, Eugenics and Conservation Biology II Insect Physiology, Insect Genetics, Nutritions, Dietics and Toxicology (Pesticide residues, resistance etc.,), Pest outbreaks III Evolution, Ecology, Ethology, Insect-Plant interactions/ Relationships IV Emerging concepts in pest management (transgenics, RNAi, SIT, Push-Pull strategy, Autocidal Biological Control, Nanotechnology, Unmanned Aerial Systems, etc.,) V Climate change, Invasives, Transboundery pests and Biosafety regulations,Quarantine regulatory mechanism VI Productive and Beneficial insects (Pollinators, Social Insects) VII Stored Product and Post-Harvest Entomology VIII Non-insect Pests (Mites, Nematodes, Rodents etc.,) IX Veterinary, Medical, Urban and Forensic Entomology X Entomology based entrepreneurship, Commercial Entomology, Entrepreneurs – Scientists interface Modalities of the Meeting: Each theme will be introduced by an expert in the concerned area followed by deliberations to identify research gaps and action points for the future. There will be no formal presentations. Entomologists are encouraged to suggest names of panelists for theme areas. The abstract should contain a brief on the studies by the entomologist concerned, how this topic can be taken forward in India, what are the lacunae and how they can be filled up with regard to research teaching and Extensions. The above two aspects can be presented in two paras. The highlights of the abstract may be put in one or two slides for presentation during the sessions. Important Note: Each Entomologist is requested to fill in the Online Registration form immediately for Entomologists Directory. Entomologists are also requested to contribute a para for E- Newsletter . This may comprise, news on promotions, visits abroad, new projects, assignments, Awards, Citations, Fellows/ Membership of Scientific society, Obituary with one small photo if it is needed.
