THE POSITION
The City of Rancho Cucamonga is seeking an enthusiastic and detailed oriented person for the part time
position of Recreation Assistant. Under the direct supervision of the Community Services Coordinator, the
Recreation Assistant will be responsible for the timely execution of setups for all programing taking place at
Central Park as well as provide excellent customer service. The position hours (15 hours per week) are
Monday through Friday and occasional weekends for special events .

The City of Rancho Cucamonga is situated at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains. Incorporated in 1977,
the City operates under a Council-Manager form of government. The population is currently 172,331 and
growing. The community is composed of fine residential areas with a balanced mix of commercial and
generous industrial land. Rancho Cucamonga has two major planned communities under construction.
Other significant amenities include a 100 acre Park with award winning senior and community centers,
Victoria Gardens Cultural Center, 150-acre championship golf course, and the Victoria Gardens regional
mall. Part of one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas, Rancho Cucamonga nonetheless remains one
of the safest cities in the country and is a desirable place to live, work, and play, yet it maintains as its goal
having a high quality of life as reflected in its planning policies and high standards for development.
THE COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT
The City of Rancho Cucamonga Community Services Department provides recreation, quality of life
services and special events for the over 170,000 residents of Rancho Cucamonga. Each year, hundreds
of thousands of participants enjoy our Sports, Senior Citizen, Performing Arts, Youth and Teen programs
and classes. From newborns to golden years – active to passive – athletic to crafty – our programs offer
something for everyone. Our Special Events Division also provides multiple opportunities throughout the
year for residents to gather as a community to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, Fourth of July, Concerts in the
Park, Founders Day Parade and more. Creating community through people, parks and programs, the
Community Services Department sets a very high standard of excellence. We are looking for creative,
professional and team-oriented individuals willing to go the extra mile and embrace.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under direct supervision of the Community Services Coordinator and Program Specialist, the Recreation
Assistant will be responsible for the following: provide public service in person and on the telephone; facility
set up; assist with preparation of promotional materials; assist in the planning and implementation of senior
programs and assist in site supervision; care for supplies, equipment and inventory; assist with the
preparation of reports; record keeping; general research and office related functions. Must be at least 18
years of age. Must be able to work a variety of hours including weekdays, weeknights and weekends.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be at least 18 years of age, have an education equivalent to the completion of twelfth grade or GED,
Experience in the implantation of sports programs with an emphasis in youth programs preferred. This
position requires good oral and written communication and organizational skills; general computer and
customer service skills are highly critical. Ability to work well with seniors, youth, parents and volunteers is
necessary.

 Complete a verification form designated by Immigration and Naturalization Service to certify that they are eligible
for employment in the United States of America; and
 Pass a pre-employment medical exam; and
 Provide proof of a valid driver’s license and be insurable
