PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Well this month’s run was interesting & unforgettable. Lot’s of laughing, teasing, photo
moments & very challenging for me. I either need to take easier trails or upgrade my
jeep. I definitely am going to get the bell for being pulled out 5 times on the run. I kept
all the guys busy helping me but that just shows how great our club always works
together to help each other out.
It was a beautiful day & the road was severely damaged by winter rains (just like many
other roads in our state). We did no damage to the road & had a complaint from a guy
that lives at Rag Dump. He is going to request they close the road in winter months & if
the county isn’t going to properly maintain it, then they should close it!
Carl lost a tire, but mine was just impacted with enough mud between the tire & rim to
make it go flat. Keith fixed my other problem. I have a few more scratches, but they
just blend in with the existing ones. Sure glad I had new
tires & my 4-low worked. All in all, my jeep is ready for the April run.
Judy was very happy she didn’t go with me. She would have had to take about 10 of
those anxiety pills she has.
Scott took some great pictures but said it’s going to be another 5 years before he goes
on a run again. What is up with that?
Dinner & alcoholic beverages was the perfect end to the day.
Kevin & Jerry will have many details to share with you.
So, I think it’s time we discuss getting some new metal club plaques. I have no idea
where we use to get them, but there have to be lots of options out there now. Maybe
someone would want to chair that project.
Carl will have an update on Stagg Pt. at the next meeting.
Our next meeting is at Black Butte as it is the same weekend as the run.
Unless there is an objection, I will buy steaks for everyone. This is traditionally
our Past President’s Dinner. Everyone needs to bring a side or dessert. We
will have appetizers Friday night during the meeting, so bring your favorite.
Great year so far, lets keep it up!
Jackie

Delegate’s Report - David Casagrande, Delegate:
David will submit his full report:
CA4WDA is up to 3,339 members. The North District needs 107 people so bring in more
members if possible. Cash flow is good for the association. David will be on the Life
member committee.
Trailmaster’s Report - Kevin Casagrande, Trailmaster, Jerry Roberson,
Asst. Trailmaster:
Jerry reported on the February run which was on February 11, 2017. 6 rigs met at D.
Casagrande’s to ride up to Feather Falls area. Carl rode with Terry Kennedy. They had a
great time, went through Golden Trout Crossing and north to Little Grass Valley. They had
a great lunch and visited at Ponderosa Dam. Bob Warka told the crew about riding inner
tubes down the spillway. Hit Forbestown Road and Robinson Mill area. No issues except
Jerry did get stuck! Where’s the cowbell when you need it? Speaking of a cowbell, Carl
and Nadine donated a cowbell to the club! Yay, thank you.
Next run will be on March 11 and will be a Snow run to the High Lakes. Since the High
Lakes were impassable due to snowstorms and road closures from the abundant rain, they
went to the Concow area. Met at Home Depot parking lot at 8:30 a.m. Lots of great
pictures were posted on our website taken by Scott - Kevin will report at next meeting. If
you want any photos blown up of your rigs, Scott has the capability and will give you a price
depending on what size you might be interested in!
th
We will discuss if we (as a club) want to attend the Molina Ghost run in May. There are no
reservations, first come, first serve. Discuss in April. There are 3 runs (SUV, Med. difficulty
run, and Extreme difficulty run).
Carl Webb brought up a question regarding Stag Point which is our Conservation work
project for our August run. He wanted to know if we need to submit a proposal to do the
work to the Forest Service. He will check with them and report back to us at the April
meeting. The plaque needs to be fixed.
Old Business:
Don’t forget, we need to attend Grange Functions throughout the month in order to have
meeting place.
Calendar of events listed below:
• April 2 – Grange Breakfast 7:30-10:30 a.m. (We meet at 8:30 a.m. as a club)
• Bunco – 2 Wednesday each month. 6 p.m. at the Grange (4910 Foothill Blvd.) $5.00
donation to play. (Proceeds support the local “SHOP WITH A COP” (Christmas for
kids) Public is invited, come join in the fun! This might be fun as a club to attend
and donate to the community at the same time!
nd
nd
If you do attend, state that you are with the Ophir Gophers so we get credit as part of our
agreement with them.
Jerry brought up possibly updating/modernizing our Jeep Club logo. After discussion, the
membership voted to maintain our current logo.
Sacramento Office Club Wall still needs the Ophir Gopher Jeep Club history/pictures to
display as soon as possible. Jackie will work on that and may call upon members to come
and help her.
New Business:
Jerry brought up the SB249 bill – email to CAL4Wheel to oppose this bill due to adding .42
cents to fuel tax – eliminate funding to OHV – no funding would result in places like
Hollister Hills, the Clay Pits, etc. closing unless someone else stands up and pays.
The club discussed the need to have an emergency contact list so when our
members/guests are on a run or any other occasion where this might be needed we will
know who to contact in the event an injury or unforeseen medical emergency occurs where
we need to contact their family/friends/neighbors.
So, I made up a list for all to fill in: Please bring your 2 contact names
including relationship to you, phone numbers and email addresses at the
April Meeting. For those of you that will not be at the meeting email me
or
the
information
a t [email protected]
[email protected] so I can type it all up and have it ready for the
next jeep run. We need this for our guests also if they are going to go
on our jeep runs.
I have 3 spots at the bottom of the list for this
purpose.
Announcements:
Joe Malloy passed away. He was a long standing Winter Fun Committee member.
Carl’s jeep is back and solid! Has Air lockers, new brakes, bearings, steering, etc. YAHOO!
Next meeting will be on Friday Evening, April 7-9, 2017 at the Black Butte Campout.
Meeting adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Cheryl Casagrande, Secretary
