addition to our Sunday Prayers. To express a “prayer chain request” you may either call Judy
Woolston at 337-3630, or the church office (334-3032). All matters are kept in confidence.
Such prayers are welcome for members and non- members alike.
Wednesday Bible Study ...
A new Bible Study will begin Wednesday, January 11th, at 9:30 A.M, entitled
“Renegade Gospel” by Mike Slaugher. Who was Jesus, really? Wasn’t the
central figure to the Christian faith a man who denied all preconceived
notions about what God should look like? Wouldn’t associating with him
have meant joining a rebel movement? Doesn’t it still? Renegade Gospel is
a church study that challenges believers to come to terms with the real
Jesus—the rebel Jesus. Study books will be available.

2017 Contribution Envelopes … AND 2016 Contribution Statements
Many folks have picked up their 2017 Contribution Envelopes, and
for that, we say “thank you!” This is very helpful, let alone cost effective
. – If you have not done so, you are encouraged to pick them up at the
church at your earliest convenience, as the new contribution year has arrived. The
envelope boxes are located in the church hallway across from the multi-purpose room.
In the next few weeks, the 2016 Contribution Statements will be coming to you. If
you have given your email address to the church office, then you can expect to receive
your statement via that email server. Otherwise, you will receive a hardcopy in the mail.
– If you do not receive your statement either way by January 31st, please contact Judy
Dreyer, Financial Secretary, or Fred Myers, Treasurer, in the church office. Thank you!
Mitten Tree…Last Call
Even though our dried out mitten tree has found a new home, your gifts are welcome through
today. Please place them in the church office. Thank you, again!
The Youth Rally will have live music, interactive worship, mission group building,
and topical small group discussions. Topics for discussions will include things that
teens struggle with daily. This event is FREE.
For more information, please contact
Megan Tolar, Youth Coordinator, or Jay Zimmerman.

MINISTRY SUNDAY CELEBRATION ... JANUARY 15TH
Administrative Assistant … “Appreciation and Welcome”
A new year is a time of transition, bringing changes in various ways. Such is the
case for our Church Office, as Beverly Davenport will be leaving our Administrative
Assistant post, effective January 3rd. This is a bitter-sweet experience. We have
greatly enjoyed Beverly, since her arrival in late September 2016. She brought a
professionalism and capability to the office, let alone an earnest spirit of ministry
and friendship. However, God has spoken to Beverly in a mighty way, as she will be
returning to the Fellowship Baptist Church in Fairfield, where she will assume
significant responsibilities for administration and ministry development. We “thank
her” for the excellence of her work and ministry here at GUMC.
Assuming Beverly’s position will be Kayla Pierce of Hagerstown, MD. Kayla is a
2015/2016 graduate of Hagerstown Community College, having received an
Associate of Sciences: Arts and Sciences Degree and an Associate of Arts:
Administration of Justice Degree. Currently, she is an online student, completing a
degree in Forensic Science. She is a member of the Hagerstown Seventh Day
Adventist Church, where she and her family are friends of Joseph, Angela, and
Nathaniel Choi, our Music Director family. Kayla will begin her Gettysburg UMC
ministry on Tuesday, January 3rd, with Beverly orienting her to our Church Office.
Kayla’s regular hours will be Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 8 AM – 3 PM.
Please welcome her as you are able!
The United Methodist Home for Children, Inc., gratefully thank us
for our recent donation of gift cards, valued at $140.00. Our gift
means that the Home can provide more than food, clothing,
counseling, and a safe environment.
For nearly 100 years, the United Methodist Home for Children has cared for and about
central Pennsylvania’s children, many the victims of abuse and neglect. As a friend
and contributor, we are part of that extended family. Our support fuels many of the
Home’s programs, which in turn puts and keeps this special group of young people on
a forward-looking path to success in school and life. Thank you for your generosity!
2017 Calendars are here!
Please note that the 2017 Calendars are available. They can be found in
the Gathering area on the table. We thank Peter’s Funeral Home, Inc. for
their gracious gift that they have given us year after year. Please take one
per household.
“We are BLESSED!” Gettysburg U.M.C. has ministry leaders who give
significantly of themselves. They have earnest relationships to Christ, as
also to one another. The dynamic allows our congregation to move
forward in ministry each day … whatever!
On Sunday, January 15th, our 10:30 AM worship celebration will express
appreciation for all who served as ministry leaders in 2016. Of that number, we will
particularly recognize those whose ministry tenures are coming to a close as of
December 31st, while also acknowledging and commissioning those whose ministries
have taken effect on January 1st.
