October 2016 Dear Parents and Students The College`s Enrichment

October 2016
Dear Parents and Students
The College’s Enrichment Week is an important part of the
learning experience and student entitlement at South Dartmoor.
It has been recognised as an “Outstanding” feature in all our
recent Ofsted inspections.
When is it?
Week of 17th—21st July 2017.
How does it work?
Normal timetable is suspended for Years 7, 8 and 9. Students
choose three activities from the booklet which they would like to
do. They then spend the week in one activity which is allocated
from any of their three choices.
What are the benefits?
Your son/daughter will work alongside staff and other students
in an activity which increases the breadth and depth of their
learning experiences. Students will reflect upon their learning,
progress and achievements during the week with staff.
What is the cost?
This depends very much upon the activity which students
choose. There is a broad range of interests and costs and one
activity is free. To secure your Son/Daughters place on an
activity slips must be returned by Friday 14th October 2016 and
then when your activity has been allocated, non-refundable
deposits must be paid by the deadline date of Friday 9th
December 2016. If the deposit is not paid by this date we
cannot guarantee your Son/Daughters place on their activity,
and their place may be re-allocated.
What about attendance?
Attendance is expected for the whole week for all students. We
would like to remind parents that we are usually unable to authorise
any request relating to holidays. Any unauthorised absences may
result to a penalty notice or fine up to £2500. If you would like to
request an absence please complete an absence request form and
return to your son/daughters performance leader immediately, but
still return the Enrichment Week 2017 form indicating you have
requested an absence.
What do I do now? Choosing an activity . . . .

Read through the booklet and look at interests and costs.
Discuss it with your parents.

Choose three activities you would be happy doing.

Fill in the ‘codes’ for these 3 activities on the ‘return form’ on
the back page.

Please note your form will be sent back to you to complete
again if you have not put three different activity choices in the
boxes.

Return it ASAP to the ‘collection box’ at Student Reception, but
by Friday 14th October 2016 at the latest.
The College will then confirm your son/daughter’s allocated activity
after half term as soon as activity participants have been agreed. If
there are any queries, please contact us at the College.
