The newsletter of the Morse Institute Library November 2015 Volume I, Issue 4 Honoring Veterans at the Morse Institute Library The Morse Institute Library has a long history of celebrating the lives and service of Natick’s veterans. This November learn about Natick’s military history with two important library exhibits: The Legacy of Service exhibit showcases photos of veterans with ties to Natick. Photos are displayed throughout the library and feature portraits of veterans going back to the Civil War. Reference librarian Cary Holmes began collecting photos for the exhibit in 2007 as a way to highlight Natick’s contribution to our country’s military efforts. If you’ve ever Since 1998 the library has hosted the Natick Veterans Oral History Project, which has recorded nearly 300 veterans’ unique and fascinating stories. Or watch Gustavus Ide talk about his duties as an officer when the USS Glennon was sunk off Utah Beach on the Normandy Coast by a German naval mine. It has been an honor to share the stories of Natick’s vets with the world. Two Books with Anna Soldiers have always written about their wartime experiences in letters and diaries.
