Press Kit Contact: [email protected] About Emmy winning television host Todd Newton is known to audiences worldwide for his work on E! Entertainment Television where, for over a decade, he was your VIP pass to red carpet events and brought you face to face with Hollywood's biggest stars. As a game show host, Todd has awarded contestants over 28 million dollars on shows such as the current hit Family Game Night, Whammy, Hollywood Showdown, Gameshow Marathon, Instant Millionaire and The Price is Right Live!-now in it's fifth exciting year at Ballys Las Vegas. In addition to his work in front of the camera, Todd has become a leader in the field of personal development. Commonly referred to as "America's Life Coach," Todd has inspired tens of thousands to live the most fulfilling lives imaginable through his certified life coaching and his dynamic keynote presentations... making Todd Newton one of the most sought after names on the corporate, college and motivational speaking circuits today. Personally, the proud father of two amazing children is the Soul Ambassador for Soles4Souls- an international organization that collects and distributes millions of pairs of shoes worldwide. Todd Newton is awesome. From the moment he followed us (@ruggedDiAMOND) on Twitter I new something special was happening. He’s a very inspiring man, passionate about human development. Whether it’s watching clips of his keynotes, or hosting Family Game Night (or Whammy: The all new Press Your Luck), or interviewing celebrities, Todd is always in high spirits… it almost seems as if his energy grows when he’s around other people. What I really like about Todd is his giving nature. In any interaction I’ve seen with him, whether it’s with friends on Facebook, followers on Twitter, or in any video I’ve seen of him online, it seems like he gives everything he has in that moment. Another great example of his giving nature is with our questionnaire. When I normally send out a questionnaire for interviews I ask the artist to answer only a portion of the question. Todd, on the other hand, went the extra mile and answered all 16 questions (You can view all the questions here: ruggeddiamond.com/newsupdates/interviews/todd-newton-full-interview). Another cool fact about Todd is that he’s a hypnotist. Although he specializes in weight loss, stopping smoking, building confidence and reducing stress, he also does live shows. On that note, it’s great to have friends in high places, because we get to see him live when he comes to Vancouver in April. If you’re interested in knowing when he performs in your town, contact us for more details. Besides travelling too much for my liking (find out how much Todd travels in the full interview), I personally think Todd lives an amazing life. At the moment he’s travelling around as the host of a live stage version of The Price is Right… a pretty awesome gig in my eyes. Like I said, Todd Newton is awesome and very inspiring. But don’t take my word for it, find out for yourself in the interview before. mk Interviews Todd Newton rD: What was your break into TV? TN: When I was 16 years old I was a puppeteer on a local children’s TV show in my hometown of St. Louis. The show was called Gator Tales. I didn’t have a very big (or memorable) role in the show but that’s the project that turned me on to the lights, the cameras and the action. I think my BIG break came in the early 90’s when I signed with E! Entertainment Television as a host for the red carpet specials and a weekly movie trailer show called Coming Attractions. rD: What is it about game shows that people love and that YOU love as a host? TN: Great question! People LOVE seeing other people win. They love cheering for a contestant even though that contestant is a total stranger. They also love playing along at home. Especially with shows like Jeopardy, we all become very proud of ourselves when we answer the $1,000 question correctly. As a host, there is nothing I could possibly love more professionally than sharing the stage with someone when they win a life changing amount of money or a car they desperately need. It’s a genuine happiness that cannot be staged. We recently tallied it up and found that I’ve awarded over 27 million dollars in cash and prizes in my career. That equals a lot of smiles. rD: You’re currently producing a documentary on stage hypnosis in America. How did that project come about? TN: I’m so, so excited about this project. I’ve only recently entered the producer world and I did it so that I could have the freedom and the outlets to see some of these ideas in my head come to life. I have a sign in my office that reads “Stop Waiting. Start Creating!” so it was time to start practicing what I preach. The doc is called “Todd Newton: An American Hypnotist” and is a partner project with a fantastic company that has recently produced documentaries on Justin Bieber, Whitney Houston and Black Eyed Peas so I was honored when they were interested in adding me to the list. I’ve had cameras following me around to shows, in airports and at home and the desired outcome is a product that introduces American audiences to the fascinating world of stage hypnosis. I’m really loving stretching my wings with it and I think audiences will find it entertaining. were speakers, astronauts, scientists, inventors, entertainers…you name it! But on every show I featured an organization that gave my listeners an opportunity to make change. One of my guest was Wayne Elsey, founder and CEO of Soles4Souls. I was so moved by Wayne’s passion and his vision that I knew I had to become involved. We struck up and instant friendship and the rest is history. rD: You recently went on a trip to Haiti? What was the most enlightening moment for you? TN: I honestly did not know what to expect when I visited Haiti. I had done my research and knew all of the statistics but you can’t get a real feel for it until you are there seeing it with your own eyes. Wayne [Elsey, founder and CEO of Soles4Souls] reminded me recently that, while walking through one of the tent cities, I said “You’ll never understand what is happening here until you see it and smell it for yourself.” It’s heartbreaking and life changing. The Haitians are such a loving and welcoming people. Their eyes are bright with happiness and compassion in spite of everything that has happened to them. rD: How can one get involved with Soles4Souls? TN: Thank you for allowing me to talk about this organization. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved either by donating shoes or money or joining us on a shoe distribution trip. What many people probably don’t realize is that $1 donated equals one pair of shoes for someone who definitely needs it. This is YOUR opportunity to make a difference. Info can be found on my homepage www.toddnewtononline.com. Wayne always says they don’t ask for a handout they just need a hand up. That’s so true. I’ll be returning to Haiti in a couple of months for another shoe distribution tour and I can’t wait. I think the most special moment of the trip was when we visited an orphanage. The kids were fascinated with my tattoos. I pointed to the tattoos of hearts that have my kids’ names written inside and taught the children the word ‘love.’ If ever there was a universal word…Love is it. rD: How did you become involved with Soles4Souls and, in particular, with helping the people of Haiti? TN: In 2010 I produced and hosted a radio show called Life Radio with Todd Newton. It was the only personal development show on the air at the time and each week I would interview people who, in their own way, had made our world a more spectacular place. Some were authors, some rD: Favorite moment in life (besides the birth of your children)? TN: Other than the life changing events of welcoming my children into the world, when I moved to Los Angeles from St. Louis I decided to drive my car so I could see part of the country. When I finally hit LA, I went straight to Venice Beach. I parked, walked out onto the sand, stared at the waves and told myself I would succeed. I programmed that for myself. Call it fate, destiny, even the Law of Attraction but I will never forget that feeling of the sun on my face and passion in my soul. I channel that feeling to this day. And the crowd is going wild!!! Come on down, you could be the next contestant on the “Price Is Right Live.” An audience member’s dream, can soon become a reality to compete for prizes on the award winning game show likeness of the “Price Is Right.” The stage is set in the 1200 seat Pavilion Theatre of the Seminole Creek Casino, with Todd Newton taking over as emcee extraordinaire, along with gregarious announcer Dave Ruprecht (host for 10 years on “Supermarket Sweep”) for the “Price Is Right Live” where the excitement is building five days a week for audience contestants to win a share of golden opportunities and prizes. It’s an interesting procession of people, first standing in line to receive their yellow and black “Price” name tag for hopeful contestants’ row and then in line again waiting for those doors to open to grab a seat, possibly close to the stage. (Seats are not reserved). But wait, as in the tv game show, it’s not where you sit to be a players choice. It’s personality. So have your best smile on. You don’t know whose out there watching, listening, mingling and contestant choosing. Originally from St. Louis, television personality/game show host Todd Newton is an extremely personable gentleman that has captured the hearts of audiences everywhere. From radio to interview/reporter for E! Television 12 years running covering the Oscars and more to game show host for such fun shows as “Hollywood Showdown,” “Whammy” and the current “Family Game Night” on the Hub Network (formerly Discovery Kids) in which he was Emmy nominated, Todd’s majestic aura and enthusiasm solidifies a career of over 20 years. Add that to author (writing his first book, “Life In the Bonus Round – the Bells and Whistles of a Modern Day Game Show Host”), producer, hypnotist and lecturer, this man with the youthful glow and harmonizing appeal, is classified with the best of them. With his success, Todd remains an everyday guy. There’s no put-ons. He’s relaxed while speaking and yet, in the same token, one can just imagine what he was like as a youth – into everything. Maybe, even a little reckless (within limits, of course). Inquisitive? Most definitely. Polished? To an extreme. He shares his knowledge as an inspirational speaker, in addition to everything else he undertakes and offers words of wisdom to those who will listen. “Be great being you. Stop waiting; start creating” is a message he often gives. Todd goes deep in thought and continues, “I can sit and wait for the phone to ring for a big audition or I can start going out creating projects.” And Todd has created many an opportunity for himself. “I started in radio,” said a very relaxed Todd backstage before showtime, “in an era where personalities were a very big part of radio. It’s different now. I was able to hone my hosting skills. I’m just one of those lucky people who found a way to get on tv being themselves.” Auditions, Todd has had his share. And yes, after 10 years emceeing “The Price Is Right Live” across the country, including Las Vegas’ Bally’s the past six years, he did have the opportunity to replace the genius of Bob Barker when he made his exit from the long running tv show. There were 7 or 8 contenders for the position. It got down to two and then Drew Carey entered the picture. Todd looks back at that opportunity and smiles, with eyes lighting an aura of brightness. “What I like to tell people, for being such a fan of the show and of game shows, to be able to do 2 full show auditions and be able to walk thru those legendary doors and do what I love doing on that stage in front of a live audience knowing that I did it well, is just a real gift to my career. Whether or not I got the show, no one can take away the fact that I’ve been on that stage and done it.” “I approach each audition as if this could be the one that changes my career. I prepare and I prepare more than anyone else I know so when I go in, it’s a flawless presentation. There may be one specific thing casting people are looking for - if you have it, you’ve got the job – if you don’t, you won’t. As I often say, the great thing is just to be great being you. And when you’re great being you, the right opportunity will come somewhere down the road. Then someone will say, Todd Newton does this better than anyone. So, when I walk in and I’m just the best Todd I can be, I know it will pay off in someway shape or form. It always has and it always will.” Which only goes to prove, positive thinking is a major part of the industry game. Another audition helpful hint from Todd is, “Don’t go in and try to become a chameleon and mold yourself into what you think someone wants for this project. Go in and be yourself.” “I’ve never looked at not getting a job as any sort of rejection or failure because I’ve had enough experience where that audition has led to something else. There have been a lot of big shows that I really would have liked to have gotten and didn’t. But then, I wake up and I go out on this stage or I go on set at “Family Game Night” and think how could I ever consider complaining.” Todd is currently producing is first documentary, which he considers, “a real labor of love” entitled, “Todd Newton, the American Hypnotist” and as Todd relates, “It’s a very revealing and honest look inside the life of someone who is a game show host by day and a hypnotic entertainer by night that travels the world.” Todd studied hypnosis in England and liked the very theatrical aspect to it. He performs about 25 dates a year, but he’s quick to clarify, “The style of hypnosis that I do is not the Las Vegas style. My persona on stage here is not faked or forced. I don’t like being a part of projects where people get humiliated or hurt. The show that we have created incorporates all facets of my television work which no other hypnotists has access to. We do a game show segment, we do a red carpet segment and it’s a lot of fun. That’s why this documentary came along at the right time.” And, Todd’s book? He echoes, “It gives me an opportunity to share the philosophies that I developed in 20 years in entertainment; to share with people who may want to get into entertainment. It tells of great stories from the road, the friendships, the real genuine laughs and the camaraderie. It gives me an opportunity to write to my children and have it there for all of eternity. The things I think of when I’m away that I want to say to them. I jot down in a journal since the day they were born. And this book gives me a chance to really put all of that out there. I really love it.” Is there anything Todd would like to do that he hasn’t yet attempted? You better believe there is – the talk show arena. “Maybe we’ll throw that on deck for 2013,” he laughs with that twinkle in his eye. No doubt, he’d be great at that too. In the game show world, Todd has two mentors. One is Sandy Stewart who created “Hollywood Showdown” (his father created “Password” and “To Tell the Truth).” The other is the legendary Bob Barker. Todd takes Barker’s advice without hesitation as he relates, “Bob always said to his audiences before they started taping, ‘I stay young because I love getting up to go to work.” How true that statement is for Todd. Getting back to “Price Is Right Live,” Todd relates, “I don’t have the pressure of being headliner here as the show is the headliner. Of course, I’d like to think I bring something to do because I have such a passion and respect for the show.” Bob reminded Todd on his adventurous venture, “Listen don’t be one of those hosts that has to be the star. The game is the star. When you realize you have all these wonderful personalities contributing to the overall performance, it just takes it to higher levels.” Yes, “Price Is Right Live” is the show you’ve loved for 40 years on television, mixed with a live interactive stage performance. Of course, there’s a twist to this game show madness. See for yourself…come on down, you could be the next contestant on “Price Is Right Live.” But hurry, you only have until April 29. C'mon down! Local audience goes crazy for legendary show invited back for the showcase at the end. By Ted Shaw, The Windsor Star June 28, 2012 "The appeal of this show," said Newton, "has always been watching other people win big prizes." The fabulously successful game show brought its touring version to the stage at Caesars Windsor's Colosseum Wednesday for the first of eight soldout shows through Saturday. As squeals of delight pierced the air, an audience of 3,500 got to experience the legendary TV show live and in person. Host Todd Newton had the contestants in the palms of his hands as he played games and gave away cash and expensive prizes. Even those who didn't make it to Contestants' Row came up winners as dozens of audience members won casino rewards and T-shirts. But those whose names were called got fancy watches, digital cameras and later competed for showcases filled with boats, trips and cars. Newton, who last weekend won a Daytime Emmy for hosting TV's Family Game Night, said he has been host of the Las Vegas stage version of The Price Is Right for five years. That's the version that came to Windsor, complete with all the popular games - Double Cross, Let 'Em Roll, Shopping Spree, Race Game, and the rest. One woman on a bus tour from Wingham, Ont., got all four prices right the first time through on Race Game, and got And he's right. Shannon Foster of London was in the audience decked out in Cat-in-the-Hat headgear. "I love the show because it's fun to watch people win and their reactions," she said. Helen Monk of Kitchener has been a fan since the blackandwhite era of the 1950s when the show was hosted by Bill Cullen. "It's just so much fun to watch and play along with," she said. Janice and Tracy Ardis from Chatham made up their own Price Is Right T-shirts. "He's the big fan," said Janice, pointing to her husband. "He watches it every day." Newton said he knew from an early age he wanted to be a show host on radio and TV. "Bob Barker was my inspiration," said the St. Louis native. Barker hosted The Price Is Right the longest, from 1972 until 2007. The show has been around since 1956, a longevity record few game shows can claim. The current version has been on TV continuously since 1972 and is in its 41st season. Barker wrote the forward to Newton's book, Life in the Bonus Round: A Game Show Host's Road to Success and Fulfilment, which comes out next month. "Bob Barker is the best there is and probably the best there will ever be," said Newton. Todd Newton is author of two popular books that clearly establish him as one of the world's top experts in success and personal development.
