potential hazardous conditions. Remind students to
be cautious when moving and to be aware of the
personal space of others. Select suitable movement
pattern for size of facility used (e.g., classroom brisk walk instead of a jog or run).
WARM-UP
• Have students move around the activity area in single file in groups of 4-6, and have each student take turns leading the group. Have the students
start by walking and progressively increase the intensity of the activity (e.g. walk, march, jog, run). After 20 seconds, have the students stop and have
a student lead the group in 1 of the following activities from the December 50 Fitness Activities Support: Gluteal Kicks (Activity #10), Raise the Roof
(Activity #13) and Swinging Leg Lifts (Activity #11).
• Repeat, as needed, to meet the recommended warm-up duration (2-3 minutes).
• Then lead, or have students lead a series of dynamic stretches. For descriptions and examples of dynamic warm up stretches,
visit, www.ophea.net/dpa2007 to download the Stretch Support (available as a chart or in classroom sign format).

Do 15 In-Out Heel Touches (Activity #8) in a designated area of the given space.
Walk once around the activity area, as if walking through very deep snow (i.e. giant steps with knees high).
Do the Boxer Jog (Activity #9) for 20 seconds.
Do 15 Speed Skating Lunges (i.e. large side to side steps with deep knee bends).
Do 12 Swing Leg Lifts (Activity #11), while singing the chorus of Jingle Bells.
Do 20 Slalom Skier Jumps over a line (i.e. jump back and forth).
Do 10 Luge Lifts for 5 seconds each (i.e. lie on the floor with arms tight to the sides while simultaneously lifting
head and pointing feet to simulate a luge descent).
Do 1 lap of the activity area, while performing Jogging Sky Rolls (Activity #12).
Do 15 Mogul Jumps (i.e. with an upright body, jump side to side, while bringing the knees as high as possible).
Raise The Roof (Activity #13) 15 times.
Pogo 2 times around the activity area, lined up as a bobsleigh team.
In the centre of the activity area, pretend to take part in 5 outdoor winter activities for 20 seconds each.
Do 20 Cross Country Skiers (opposite legs and arms moving as a skier would).
Do 15 Freestyle Aerial Twists (i.e. jump and twist left and back to centre before landing, repeat and twist right).
Variations:
• To increase the difficulty, students may increase the repetitions of each mission.
• To decrease the difficulty, students may reduce the repetitions of each mission.
COOL-DOWN
• Have students work in groups of 3-4. Have all the groups start in the middle of the activity area. On your command, each student Boxer Jogs
(Activity #9) to the outside of the activity area, and then walks back to the middle and give his/her group a high five. Each student in the group will
go to a new side of the activity area at a slightly slower intensity, and come back to the middle and give the group a high five. Continue this pattern
until all students have touched all 4 sides of the activity area.
• Then, lead or have students lead, a series of static stretches (1-2 minutes). For descriptions and examples of static cool-down stretches,
visit www.ophea.net/dpa2007 to download the Stretch Support (available as a chart or in classroom sign format).
NOTES FOR TEACHERS
• To download additional supports such as the 50 Fitness Activities Support in classroom sign format, mission sheets and fitness station cards,
visit www.ophea.net/dpa2007.
• Music is an excellent motivator. Play music during the mission to encourage constant movement.
• Students could create new missions for this activity. The new missions could be shared with other classes.
• For smaller spaces the missions that require jogging around the area could be substituted by jogging on the spot.

• Suggested music for this activity is track 12 from Movin’ Music for DPA CD.
• Divide the class into 4-6 groups and give each group a mission sheet.
• Inform the groups that they may begin at any number on the sheet, but each member must do every mission.
• Each group must stay together and perform each of the missions as a group as quickly as possible.
