Rejoice and be glad!
Today at Mass, Father Cesar talked about the importance of practice. He
reminded us that in so many areas of our lives, we need to practice before we
improve, such as in sports or in our recent jr. high play, athletes and thespians
must practice and continually rehearse if they want to succeed. In an effort to
become better versions of our selves, Lent is a season in which we conscientiously examine our habits, specifically with prayer, charity, and self-denial.
Father Cesar said that it is never too late to revisit our original Lenten goals
and start anew with acting on those ideas to improve our selves. He also tied
the homily to the scriptures by reinforcing our belief that no matter how alone
we may feel or however dry our faith may be at times, God never forgets
us. It is through practice that we improve our faith, and when we become
closer to God, it becomes clear that we are neither forgotten nor dried up in
our desire to glorify the Lord with our lives.
Heads up:
Next week is a collection week for the cathedral’s Sharing Our Daily Bread
ministry. Please bring contributions to Mass on the weekend of April 8/9 or
send in non-perishable food items to school, and the 7th grade religion class
will deliver them to the parish house for you.
We hope you plan to attend the Cathedral Ministry Fair this weekend, April
1 & 2 (in the plaza after each Mass). The many ministries of the parish will
exhibit how they put their faith into action, and this is an opportune time to
check out ways in which you may become more active in our parish.
Saint Pride!!
Last week at St. Mary’s Empowering Young Women event, our own Brooklyn
Silva, (‘14) was a keynote speaker. We are very proud of her and her willingness
to share her humble yet powerful story of facing cancer at such a young age.
At this same event, the St. Mary’s Prima Voce choir sang two beautiful songs.
Seven of the thirteen young ladies were Annunciation alumni (over 50%!).
Their love of singing, in part, stems from their experience and foundation here
at Annunciation School (where they sang for Mrs. Rainwater’s choir).
Kinder & first grade openings
There is still space available in the kindergarten and first grade classes for the
2017-2018 school year. If you know of someone considering school options
for their child, please promote our great school and refer them to the school
office for enrollment information. Thank you!

Jr. high play
I cannot express how proud I am of all of the students who were involved in the junior high play, Young Sherlock, at
Annunciation School! They all worked extremely hard, and it paid off in a big way. I also want to thank the school,
the parish, and especially all of the parents/guardians who supported the play. Everything from the set, props, and
costumes, to the rehearsal snacks, dress rehearsal meals, and everything in between wouldn’t have been possible
without everyone’s help. It was truly a blessing to produce this show for the school. - Alex Freitas
Over the weekend, Mrs. Denise Guntert (parent of three graduates and niece of Renata Carruesco) activated a
Go Fund Me site to collect contributions in memory of Mrs. Renata Carruesco and Mrs. Laverne Held. With the
contributions, the Carruesco and Held families plan to renovate the gym stage (curtains, floor, lighting, and SOUND).
Mrs. Carruesco and Mrs. Held both directed and inspired decades of Annunciation students, and we are thrilled
that their families would like to keep their long-standing flair for theater arts alive. We are very grateful to these
families, and we look forward to being able to see and hear at our Advent Program and jr. high plays!

Standardized testing
Please note that standardized testing is the week of April 24 – 28, the week following our Easter break. It is important
that we have all students at school, nourished and well rested. The data generated from these tests is very important in
helping us to determine our areas of strength and areas where growth is needed.
