Women’s Gymnastic Team Leaves Beijing with 10 medals
By: Kayla Banzet
After years of hard work,
dedication and perseverance, the
U.S. women’s gymnastic team
finally made it through the 2008
Summer Olympics. This year’s
Olympics was controversial when
many viewers thought the Chinese
team was under-age and that the
judges were favoring them. Despite
the problems the U.S. team had,
they still prevailed.
The women’s team was
made up of Shawn Johnson, Nastia
Liukin, Chellsie Memmel, Samantha
Peszek, Alicia Sacramone and
Bridget Sloan. The team fought hard
against their toughest competition,
the Chinese, the first night. They
sadly came up short with the points
and took the silver in team.
Shawn Johnson, a crowd
favorite, was expected to win
multiple gold medals throughout the
Olympics. During the long week,
Johnson received silver medal, after
silver medal, specifically on floor
routine and in All-Around.
Though her smile never
faded, disappointment was easily
seen in her eyes. Finally, Johnson
received her first gold medal on the
balance beam.
A Look Into the New Teachers:

Mrs. Archibald:

All-Around. Then, she took the
backseat to other competitors by
taking two silvers (beam and bars)
and a bronze medal (floor). Liukin’s
gold medalist father was very
proud of his daughter’s Olympic
accomplishments.
Even though many of the
American girls were expecting to
do better, they still did very well.
As a team, they gathered 10 medals.
They also made their home country
very proud.

Jonas
Brothers “Burnin Up” the record charts
By: Emily Jamison
For these brothers, life
couldn’t be better. Having a platinum
album out can be hard to live up to
with another album coming out, but
for the Jonas Brothers, it may not be
that hard to live up to. Their new
album A Little Bit Longer came out
August 12, 2008. With hits like
“Burnin’ Up,” “Pushin’ Me Away,”
“BB Good,” “A Little Bit Longer,”
and “Sorry” on the album, it’s most
likely that it will go platinum, too.
The Jonas Brothers, who
are Kevin, Joe, and Nick, have
been performing since 2005. The
group originally started out as a
solo project for Nick Jonas, but the
brothers wrote a song together and
the record label thought this could
be a band. The solo project then
turned into a family affair. The
title track “A Little Bit Longer”
was actually written by Nick, who
writes most of the band’s songs.
The song has a slow beat, but has
great harmony and melody. The
song is about Nick’s diabetes. Nick
was diagnosed at age 13 with Type
1. This close and personal song has
already hit number one on iTunes.
The song “Burnin’ Up” is
about a boy’s attraction to a girl.
The song has great sound. Its guitar
riffs are really awesome to listen to.
This song really shows the energy
that the guys of the Jonas Brothers
share. In the song, their bodyguard
Big Rob does the rap part of the
song. This happened when the guys
couldn’t get a well-known rapper to
do the song with them.
Another great song is

“Pushin’ Me Away.” The song is
about a girl pushing a guy away
because of something she did, and
he wants her to try and fix it. The
song’s tempo and beat are great. The
melody that Nick does blends well
with Kevin and Joe’s voices. (They
do the harmonies in the song.)
The last song is “Sorry.”
This song is about being on tour and
making promises but not keeping
the promises. The guys of the Jonas
Brothers know how this is because
they are always on tour. The song is
great and has great guitar riffs.
This album is their best work
yet. The Jonas Brothers didn’t even
take time off their tour record this
album. They recorded it while on
road. This album gets five out of
five guitars.
