Personal Reflection and Application:
1. Ask God to search your heart and reveal any wickedness that
needs to be repented. Confess any sin to him, trusting in Jesus
Christ’s work on your behalf to make righteous before God
both positionally and practically.
Gospel Community Discussion Questions:
1) Read Psalm 35:1-6, Psalm 69:22-28, Psalm 83:13-18, and
Psalm 5:10. What is your initial human reaction when you
encounter these types of prayers in the Psalms?
2) In light of Psalm 5 (especially versus 4-5), how do
“imprecatory psalms” help us better understand God’s
perspective on sin?
3) Why is it important to “love and long for God’s righteous
produce in your life” when approaching the imprecatory
Psalms? How must we seek his righteousness without being
“self-righteous”?
2. Are there any ways that you have been troubled by the
wickedness of the world around you? How does a perspective
of God’s righteousness change or affirm how you think and
feel about those things? Pray to God about them and commit
to watching him work.
4) What comfort do imprecatory psalms offer to God’s people?
5) What might be an appropriate way to pray the imprecatory
psalms from a New Testament perspective?
Breakout Time
Split your group into men and women to pray for one another
and hold one another accountable. Share any areas of sin in your
life that God revealed to you that are offensive to his holiness.
Share (working hard to refrain from gossip) any circumstances
where you are troubled by wickedness that God is seemingly not
acting upon right now. Catch up on ongoing prayer requests, and
cry out to God for one another and for those to whom you are
taking the gospel.
