Talent Show 2016:
It is now time to begin thinking about the IDEAL Talent Show. There will be two performances; one in
the morning for the Primary and Elementary units and the other in the afternoon for Middle School. The
performers are in both shows and family members are welcome to come to either performance.
Biennial Music Festival:
* Tonight and tomorrow night, May 4th & 5th MPS is hosting the 46th Biennial Music Festival at the
UW-Panther Arena. IDEAL has students in the Middle School Unit performing (May 4th) and the
Elementary Unit performing (May 5th). This festival begins at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and
$3 for children. We do have some tickets available for sale at school. More information about this
festival is on the MPS home page.
ABC Attendance Countdown:
The end of the year is coming quickly!!!! We will begin our ABC Attendance Countdown this Friday,
May 6th. A list of fun ABC activities is attached for families to help with participation!!!! It’s a fun way
to count down the final days of school.
Box Tops for Education:
We just received a check for $225.00 from the Box Tops for Education program. Thank you to all the
people who regularly send in these labels. It is such an easy way to raise money for our school. The
labels are on many, many products you may have in your home. Please help promote this fundraiser.
Just to let you know…
Spring is indeed upon us. With Spring/Summer in Wisconsin we also have to deal with the occasional
nuisances such as insects. Unfortunately we have recently seen wood ticks near the grassy area opposite
our playground. We do want to assure you all these are wood ticks, (not the deer ticks that carry
disease). The MPS Facilities & Maintenance crew has been out and is monitoring the problem as well
as the IDEAL staff.
Something to share…
We’re very happy to share that IDEAL has had some wonderful projects going on this week! We’ve
replaced the library carpeting and we were truly blessed to be one of the MPS schools to receive new
landscaping services for the front of our building. Take a peak as you drive by, it looks so beautiful and
colorful!
Primary Unit:
-Happy May everyone!! Can you believe we are on our last full month of school? Yippee!! Even
though the end of the year is getting closer, we have a lot of learning left to do! Let’s keep coming to
school every day and on time so we can finish the year strong!
-Hopefully the May weather will bring us sunnier days, but please have your child wear appropriate
clothing for the weather every day. You never know what this crazy spring weather is going to do!

-This Friday, May 6th is our school wide Talent Show! We are so excited! We have been practicing
hard as a unit to show off our great talents to all of our families and friends. There are two times that
you can come watch on Friday one in the morning and one in the afternoon. We hope to see everyone
there for our fantastic show!
-Testing is still happening every day in the Primary Unit for the PALS test. This test assesses your child
in their phonetic awareness, reading, literacy skills, and spelling. The students are doing a great
job. Keep up the good work!
-We completed our project last week with the water bottles. Thank you to all of you who donated. We
do not need any more bottles!
-Let’s have a great rest of the week to kick off the month of May!!
Elementary Unit:
-CORRECTION: Miriam Jasim is also a member of the 7th place team.
-Two 5th grade teams placed in the top 20 in the Middle School Division for the Wisconsin Stock
Market Simulation which ended on April 22. Ashlyn Socher, Jennifer Tran, Miriam Jasim, and Kaylia
Humphrey placed 7th and Andrew Calderon, Chance Borchardt, and Alberto Martinez came in 13th out
of a total of 45 teams.
-This week in Thematic Literacy we are using our chrome books to read an informational
biography entitled Elizabeth Blackwell: America's First Woman Doctor. After reading, we are
identifying the author's purpose, finding the main idea and supporting details, as well as answering
extended response questions. The students have begun a unit on American Government for Social
Studies and they are learning about the Declaration of Independence. In Science, we are studying DNA
to help us better understand how plants and animals have traits inherited from their parents.
-Attention parents of the fifth graders! Today in the Wednesday Folder you will find an invitation to
your child's Junior Docent Art presentation at the Milwaukee Art Museum on Tuesday, May 17th as
well as the permission slip. Please review all of the information in the letter and return the permission
slip to school. The 5th graders have begun to work on their presentations and the excitement is building
for our big day on May 17th. Several students have already turned their art projects in and several more
have stated that they are putting the finishing touches on their projects. Just a reminder that all projects
are due Monday, May 9th. This allows all of the students' Junior Docent art projects to be on display
at IDEAL's Art Night and Potluck Dinner on Wednesday, May 11th. Please join us on the 11th to see all
of IDEAL's talented artists and then please join us again at the Milwaukee Art Museum on the 17th to
listen to and support IDEAL's Junior Docents as they make their presentations. We hope to see you
there!
-We are looking forward to seeing many of our families at this Friday’s talent show.
Middle School:
-Middle School students are wrapping up the FORWARD testing. We want to thank all of our families
for making sure the students were present at school and ready to test.
-Middle School students have the opportunity to sign up for the track meet. This is a one day event
that the team travels to for a day of participation. Coach Jim held an open call and students are
currently practicing with him for specified activities. The students will travel to Pulaski High School
from 9:30-1:30, May 17th. Students who join the team will have a permission slip sent home soon.
