according to the philosophy of ZoltánKodály
Examine the application of Kodály methodology

An introduction to the music educational
philosophy of ZoltánKodály.
The importance of developing a
systematic and structured music
education programme using the tools of
solfa, handsigns and rhythm names.
How to choose and teach age
appropriate vocal repertoire.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module you will
be able to:

Identify and explain the key concepts of the
Kodály philosophy

Select age/stage appropriate vocal material to
support the delivery of a Kodály-based
programme.
Assessment Mode 1 and
Weighting
You will be assessed through:
· Written examination –A 2000 word essay
on the Kodály Philosophy and its
adaptation in Britain
· 50% (LO)
Assessment Criteria for Mode 1
Assessors will look for:
A sound understanding of the key elements of
the Kodály philosophy and its adaptation in UK.
The use of a range of creative and organisational
skills informed by the professional attitude and
values required for Kodaly music education
Assessment Mode 2 and
Weighting
You will be assessed through:
· A folio of songs with supporting analysis
· 50% (LO)
Assessment Criteria for Mode 2
Assessors will look for:
The ability to analyse song repertoire focusing on
range/tonality/rhythmic and melodic elements
and show an understanding of the suitability of
the songs to support the teaching of chosen
musical concepts.

For intensive version of this module (Intensive
