Board Report Lake Michigan Bird Watching-Gulls August

Poolside Barbeque August 17!
Difficult though it may be to realize, this is
the 10th year we will enjoy 1500’s annual
summer party by the pool. We have Phyllis
Heyman, Hospitality Committee Chair, to
thank for this delightful barbeque, certainly
a most popular event in our building.
Phyllis discovered the caterer. For those of
you spending your first summer here, this
is a real, honest-to-goodness barbeque by
the pool with seating both outside and inside. Stashs, the caterer, and his staff set
up their grills outside and tables on which a
delicious assortment of salads sit. Every
item, whether hot dog, hamburger, or
chicken, is custom grilled just as you like
it and handed to you on a fresh bun. For
dessert, a typical August treat – ice
cream bars, cookies, and coffee. Wine
and soft drinks are served before and
during dinner, but the lines for food invariably are longer! This is a not-to-bemissed party so we hope to see all of
you on Sunday, Aug. 17 at 5:00 in The
1500 Room (aka the Party Room).
Please make your reservation by August
10 by calling the office at 847/256-4356.
Lake Michigan Bird Watching-Gulls
The birds you see from your balcony that
seem to be on ceaseless missions are the
ring-billed gulls, one of 23 species of gulls
in North America. The birds are mediumsized gulls with gray backs and white underparts, yellow legs and the identifying
yellow bill with black ring midway. The
brown mottled birds are younger than three
years. Their life expectancy is 10-15 years
and the predation rate is so low that local
colonies have increased 400% in less than
ten years. There is an estimated population
of 100,000 in the Chicago area.
They migrated to Illinois sometime in the
‘70s and have thrived here. In the winter
hey go as far south as necessary to find
food sources and open water.
Board Report
At the July Board Meeting, the Board approved replacement of the lift in the lobby.
Chuck Southwick will be the Secretary of the
Board, replacing Ralph Goren. Magnetic
door holders for the two doors at the CD
garage level were approved. The North
Parking Lot should be completed by August
5. Various options for tree replacement on
the east side have been delivered to Homeowners. Please indicate your choice (or
write in another choice). As is customary,
there will be no Board Meeting in August.
They are not fussy eaters and will eat
garbage, picnic leavings, fish , bugs and
bird chicks, even their own.

She has had successful surgery and is

those who wish to send cards or notes,
the best way is to deliver them to the
office, and they will be delivered to her
by hand. In the meantime Suzie Vukic
will be in the office from 9-12, Monday
through Friday.
One of the residents, Steven Denemark, 4L, has suggested:

give everyone a lift. (Walt Disney’s

group prefers to see this.)
