AGU FALL MEETING – SAN FRANCISCO, DECEMBER 2013
I recently attended the American Geophysical Union conference in San Francisco. Before the conference
I attended the Berkeley Catchment Science Symposium. Several leading scientists presented at the
symposium covering a wide range of topics and proposed several interesting ideas. At the AGU
conference I was able to have several meetings with Canadian researchers who are currently working in
the same field site in Canada. This meeting provided valuable information on future collaborative work
and ongoing data sharing. During the conference I attended several relevant and interesting
presentations covering a similar area of research to my own. Several presentations covered the
complexity of CH4 and CO2 production in Arctic environments and the relationships between methane
production and plant communities. I presented my current research as a poster and was able to talk to
several scientists who are working on similar topics. These discussions were very beneficial and have
helped improve the direction of my current research. Overall the conference was extremely beneficial
and I am very grateful to SAGES for providing me with funds to attend. I look forward to attending the
AGU conference again later this year.
