Ceremonial Mace
.The Chancellor's Medallion and the UW-SP Ceremonial Mace
were both ha~d-cnifted by Art ~ofessor· Henry Runke. The · .
medalli~ll was cast in a 14K yellow gold pendant in 1968 and
contains a ·pm:ple amethyst to repres~nt the school colors. The
- four sectioned areas temiinating near the center symbolize the
:fc>ur colleges of the university and tem:ririate as prongs for the
·gem. The mace, c;arried by the grand marshal of academic.
processions: was completed ih i 97 6 and has a square base on
which important dates in-the school's history are recorded. The
most prominent feature is the mace Ilead which is a Iniiliature of
the cupola on Old Main, the school's symbol. The inside of the
mace also .i ncludes a purple amethyst.
