Brent Harring, Discovering Bigfoot instructor at Jefferson
Brent is a former Outward Bound instructor with extensive experience in
the back country of the Lake Superior region. He did his undergraduate
studies in Sociology and Native American Studies at St. Olaf College and
graduate studies in Experiential Education at Minnesota State University—
Mankato, and is a certified Wilderness First Responder. He has been an
amateur bigfoot investigator since 2006.

The main benefit of using homemade body products is that
you know exactly what ingredients are used and can avoid
ingredients you might be allergic to. Another advantage of
making your own homemade products is that it can save you a
significant amount of money, because all you have to purchase
are the raw ingredients. Most of these classes use natural
ingredients in addition to being homemade.
Bar Soap
Experience the fusion of essential
oils and soothing coconut the oldfashioned, cold process lye soap way.
Wear old clothing with long sleeves,
long pants, toe-covered shoes, eye
protection (glasses acceptable) and
rubber gloves. Students will create
one batch of soap to be divided and
taken home. The second night of class
runs from 6–8 pm. The instructor will

Kumihimo Basics
Take braiding to a whole new level with
Kumihimo, an ancient form of Japanese
braid-making. Japanese for “gathered
threads,” Kumihimo uses interlacing
strands to make cords and ribbons. Bring
a braiding cord (pearl cotton), Kumihimo

button, and a Kumihimo weight or
heavy washer.

Calling all food enthusiasts! It’s time for the fourth annual
Southwest Community Education “Tin Chef” Cook-Off! Similar
to popular cooking competition shows Top Chef and Chopped,
we’ll transform our kitchen into contest central as four teams
battle it out for the winning dishes! Join in the competition or
watch from the audience as teams prepare two dishes from
scratch, complete with the chaos of surprise ingredients and
outlandish comedy and entertainment throughout!
“Tin Chef” Team Contestants
Create a team of three members (three participants and an alternate)
to participate in the Tin Chef Cook-Off. Each team will purchase its
own groceries. Teams must prepare two dishes using three specific
ingredients, two which will be shared ahead of time and one which
will be revealed the night of the contest. Participants must be at least
18 years old. Team registration is by phone only and is first-come,
first-served.

Born and raised in the Twin Cities,
Jeremy earned a BFA in Dance from
the University of Minnesota. He has
performed with Minnesota Dance
Theatre, Minnesota Opera, Flying Foot
Forum, Out on a Limb, Keane Sense of Rhythm, and New York
ensembles Dusan Tynek Dance Company and The Bang Group.
His musical theater credits include French Twist and Heaven at
the Guthrie and La Cage Aux Folles at Bloomington Civic Theater
and regional producer for the world premiere musical, Golden
Boys. Jeremy was nominated for a 2014 MN SAGE Award for

This is an intermediate dog training
class for dogs of any age. Dogs should
have had at least 1 prior training class
and be generally comfortable around

reinforcement methods, we will work
to strengthen and perfect basic dog

also focus on more difficult behaviors
such as: “go to your bed” “heel” and
“stay.” Previous clicker training is

of fond memories for rock-’n’ rollers
of all ages! Have your picture taken in
front of our famous ’57 Chevrolet, and
buy some take-out snacks at our own
version of “Porky’s Drive-In.” We’ll be

Cross Country Ski Trip to
National Forest Lodge in
Isabella, MN
Join us on our 13th annual trip to
National Forest Lodge, where you’ll
find excellent skiing, superb hospitality,
and a peaceful and relaxing setting,
not to mention great food, an outdoor
hot tub and a wonderful sauna. More
than 35 kilometers of groomed trails
perfect for skiing and snowshoeing
weave through uncut stands of pine.
Cozy, rustic cabins hold two to eight
people. Cabins are heated and have
electricity, sitting areas and comfortable
beds, but no interior plumbing. A
central bathroom and shower house
is only 30-100 feet away from the
cabins. Linen rentals are available, or
you can bring your own sleeping bag,
pillows and towels. Isabella is located
about 70 miles north of Duluth.
Transportation is on your own. The
cost covers lodging, meals (Friday
dinner to Sunday lunch), Saturday
night entertainment and complete use
of the facilities. Cabins are selected
based on availability.

Go north to Grand Marais to find the
best cross country skiing in Minnesota.
Stay at the new Aspen Lodge. Spend
your days skiing or snowshowing on
the North Shore Ski Trails, at Cascade
Park, at Pincushion Mountain or
along Lake Superior. If you prefer
back country options, get dropped off
along the North Mountain Trail and
ski down to a bus pick-up at Cascade
Lodge. After dinner Saturday night,
relax at the Grand Marais whirlpool,
sauna and swimming pool reserved
just for us. The coach bus will leave
the Chowen Avenue parking lot at
6:30 p.m. Friday night and return at
9:45 p.m. Sunday. Cost covers the
coach bus, lodging, pool fees, Saturday
breakfast and dinner, Sunday breakfast,
and snacks. You must be at least 18
years old to attend. A mandatory room
selection meeting will be held from 7-8

To take a discount on a class,

If you are 62 or older, receive
Social Security Assistance,
Unemployment Compensation,
or MFIP, you can take a 25%
discount on most classes.
Supply fees are not discounted.

$15 per class.
