Learn about the work of contemporary Canadian sculptor, Brian Jungen, and create your own 3-D sculpture using non-traditional materials. Students will study 3-D design, use of color, texture, shape, space, and form. Instructor: Ingrid Erickson Each class concludes with Student Demonstrations/Exhibitions for their families on Fridays. She is a WVAC ARTstop instructor and a professional artist, specializing in oils and mixed media artwork. JACKIE BLACK is currently in her twelfth year of teaching art in the Rowan-Salisbury Elementary schools. She earned a BA in Fine Arts with an emphasis in Painting and Printmaking from Hampton University, Virginia. CATHERINE CROSS has spent the past 30 years engaging people of all ages with the art process and spirit of creation. Her life’s mission is to create, inspire, educate and advocate for the arts. She received her BFA from Guilford College and has taught numerous classes and workshops, both at Waterworks and the Orlando Museum of Art in Florida. INGRID ERICKSON earned Studio Art/Art History degrees at Middlebury College in Vermont, and studied art in Asia for several years. She is a professional artist specializing in works in cut paper and mixed media art. BRENDA GARIEPY studied at Alfred University, New York, and has teaching experience in NY, PA, and NC. She currently teaches for the Rowan-Salisbury Elementary Schools and specializes in hand-built and wheel-thrown pottery classes at the Waterworks. DEBBIE HOFFMAN is a teacher’s assistant with the Rowan-Salisbury Schools. She has worked as a choreographer for PPT and owned and operated a dance studio in Salisbury. She continues to teach students visual art techniques through music and dance, both at WVAC and summer church camps. RAY MOOSE is a professional artist and self-taught sculptor, working in Mount Pleasant, NC. He specializes in large-scale bronze works and recently worked with Waterworks and Rowan County fourth-graders on the Rowan Cotton Mill Tile Public Art Project. BRENT SMITH is an East Carolina graduate who works as a full-time potter. He works in his studio and showroom behind his farmhouse in Rowan County, continually experimenting with forms, clays, glazes, and textures. WALTER STANFORD works professionally as a freelance illustrator, creating art for regional and national ad agencies, publishers, and corporations. A graduate of East Carolina University, he is a member of the Piedmont, Southeastern, and Appalachian Pastel Societies. PHYLLIS STEIMEL is a founding member of Plein Air Carolina and an avid painter. She excels in working with students of all ages, pulling from her experience as a swimming coach. She earned her BFA from Syracuse University and has taught Waterworks classes for seven years. REGISTRATION INFORMATION CLASS SIZES ARE LIMITED - REGISTER EARLY! For your convenience, the Registration and Emergency Contact Form is available to download from our website. You may register online with payment via PayPal; in person, or by phone during regular business hours with cash, check , Visa or MasterCard. Select classes in the appropriate age group for your child. Please note that children participating in each age group must reach the appropriate age for that class by June 1, 2013. (NO exceptions) Annual WVAC Membership must be valid at time of registration to receive the member rates and discounts. Members registering for three or more classes (at the same time) will receive $5 off the class tuition fee of the third and subsequent classes per student. If class tuition fees are not paid-in-full upon registration, a NON-REFUNDABLE and NONTRANSFERABLE deposit of $25 per class, per student is required. This fee will hold the student’s spot in the class and the fee will be applied toward the full class tuition. ALL TUITION FEES MUST BE PAID IN FULL BY MAY 31, 2013. If tuition is not paid in full by that time, the registration process IS NOT considered complete and the student may lose their spot in the requested class(es). To ensure a quality experience for all involved, WVAC reserves the right to refuse/remove a student due to behavioral problems. If a situation arises and a student is asked to leave, class fees will be forfeited with no refund/voucher. A limited number of need-based scholarships are available. To be considered for a scholarship, the application deadline is May 15, 2013 for the Summer ARTventures program.
