1.1
Scope of these instructions
These instructions describe the function, installation, commissioning and operation of the F33 low
temperature zone module. For other components of the installation, such as pumps, controllers and
manifolds, see the manufacturers' instructions. The chapters called [specialist] are directed to
specialists only.
1.2
Designated use
The zone module may only be used in hydronic heating closed-loop systems taking into
consideration the technical limit values indicated in these instructions. The zone module must not
be used in any applications for fuel or oil and domestic water applications such as jacuzzis.
The wrapping materials are made of recyclable materials and can be disposed of with recyclable
materials.

2 Safety instructions
2 Safety instructions
The installation and commissioning of the zone module as well as the connection of electrical
components require technical knowledge commensurate with a recognised vocational qualification
as a fitter for plumbing, heating and air conditioning technology, or a profession requiring a
comparable level of knowledge [specialist]. The following must be observed during installation and
commissioning:
•
Relevant local and national prescriptions
•
Accident prevention regulations of the professional association
•
Instructions and safety instructions mentioned in these instructions
All field wiring made during installation must comply with:
•
National Electrical Code NFPA 70 and any other national, state, provincial or local codes or
requirements
•
In Canada, CSA C22.1 Canadian Electrical Code Part 1, and any other local codes
Attention
The F33 PAW zone module may only be used in hydronic heating closedloop systems taking into consideration the technical limit values indicated in
these instructions. The zone module must not be used in any applications
for fuel or oil and domestic water applications such as jacuzzis.
Attention: Material damage due to mineral oils!
It is imperative to avoid that the EPDM sealing elements of the station get
in contact with substances containing mineral oils. Mineral oil products
cause lasting damage to the material, whereby its sealant properties are
lost.
If necessary, ask the manufacturer whether the solar fluid, fats or
installation aids contain mineral oils.
We do not assume liability nor provide warranty for damage to property
resulting from sealants damaged in this way.
3 Product description
Attention: overheating
The in-line aquastat has to be installed to the supply pipe in any case! Only
in this way it is possible to securely avoid overheating of the circuit and
damage of the floor covering.
3 Product description
The F33 zone module is a preassembled fitting group for hydronic heating closed loop systems. It
is equipped with isolation valves, so that the pump can be easily maintained or changed.
It is designed such that it can be directly mounted onto a PAW distribution manifold or a mounting
plate with thread connections. Only use PAW accessories in combination with the zone module.

3.2 Function
F33 - Low temperature zone module with 3-way
mixing valve
The supply temperature of the zone module is
controlled by the integrated mixing valve. Hot supply
water and cold return water are mixed to obtain the
desired supply temperature of the zone module. The
supply temperature is adjusted with a thermostatic
head and an aquastat. The three-way actuator is
continuously adjustable (closed… completely open)
The rate of pre-mixing can be adjusted at the mixing
valve bypass and up to 50% of cold return water are
mixed to the hot supply water.
Example: Radiant heating systems require a low
temperature level with small temperature differences
and high flow rates. It is therefore sufficient to mix the
return water that is still quite warm with only a small
amount of hot water.
Applications
•
Zones with supply temperature that are
considerably lower than the boiler supply
temperature
•
Small zones with low power outputs and few
requirements regarding the control

3.2.1
Mixing valve [specialist]
The supply temperature of the zone module is controlled by the mixing valve. Hot water from the
boiler and cold return water are mixed to obtain the desired supply temperature. The mixing valve is
suitable for low temperature heating zones which are operated with a constant supply temperature.
In case of maintenance of the mixing valve, please order the special gasket set which is available
as spare part.

3 Product description
F33 is designed to provide constant
C-6
supply temperatures to the radiant
system. Depending on the geographic
location of the installation, periodic
adjustments to the temperature may or
may not be necessary.
The thermostatic head (C-6) serves to
adjust the desired supply temperature.
Rotating the dial of the thermostatic
head to a higher number will provide for
hotter temperatures. The designer of the
radiant system must ensure that the
range of temperatures provided by the
control is suitable for the installation.
The mixing valve is equipped with an additional flow channel serving as adjustable bypass.
Through the bypass water from the return is being mixed to the outgoing supply. Like this, the
flow temperature sinks, but the flow inside the system rises. The following diagram shows the
relationship between the warm-up time and the position of the bypass. The bigger the volume
flow and the more open the bypass, the longer it takes to reach adjusted temperature.

3 Product description
1. During the start-up of the
system, determine the correct
bypass position in a trial and
error process.
•
When the bypass screw
(C-4) is turned by 90° so that
the slot is in a vertical position,
the bypass is closed. Usually,
this is the operation position for
smaller floor zones. The
temperature might be a bit
higher than adjusted on the
thermostatic head.
C-4
•
When the slot of the bypass
screw (C-4) is in horizontal
position, the bypass is
completely open. This means
that the biggest possible flow
volume flows from the return to
the supply. The supply
temperature is reduced and
might even be lower than
adjusted on the thermostatic
head.
2. Check the bypass adjustment
during operation. Take care
that there is a sufficient flow
volume to the radiant floor and
that the desired temperature is
reached

3.2.2
Check valve [specialist]
The zone module F33 is equipped with a check valve in the return pipe (D-1) and in the return of
the mixing valve (C-5). The check valve is spring-operated. The opening pressure is 2 kPa.
Operation
During operation the mark must be
directed to "Z".
Æ The check valve is operating.
Æ Flow only in one direction
For filling, emptying and bleeding
Filling, emptying, bleeding
the mark must be directed to "A".
Æ The check valve is lifted
(not operating)
Æ Flow in both directions

4.4 Accessories: Compression-ring coupling (not included in delivery)
The connection to the heating installation can be carried out fast, pressure-proof and without
soldering when you use the optionally available compression-ring couplings.
1. Push the union nut ② and the ring ③ onto the copper
pipe ①. To guarantee secure load transmission and
sealing, the pipe must extend at least 3/8" (3 mm) out
of the ring.
2. Insert the support sleeve ④ into the copper pipe.
3. Insert the copper pipe with the plugged-on individual
parts (②, ③ and ④) all the way into the housing of the
compression-ring coupling ⑤.
4. First screw the union nut ② manually.
5. Tighten the union nut ② by rotating one full turn.
Secure the housing of the compression-ring coupling
⑤ against distort in order to avoid damaging the
sealing ring.
