MONDAY OCTOBER 19TH
Next Monday Fitzroy Primary School is holding our National
Spanish Day celebrations. Everyone can dress up in Spanish
colours or costume. Activities on the day include a piñata for each
class made by Year 4/5/6J, a staff and students soccer match (Real
Madrid versus Barcelona), Spanish donuts, Spanish singing and the
presentation of Spanish passports to our Foundation students.
Parents are invited to our Spanish assembly at 2.45pm .
It’s a great opportunity for all of us to celebrate the
learning of the Spanish language at Fitzroy Primary
School.
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
W
elcome back to Term 4, hope that all families had a good break.
I
am really looking forward to our 2015 Art Show (which is only a couple of weeks away) to be
held on Friday October 30th between 5-7pm. Attached to this newsletter is a flyer about our Art
Show, I hope to see all families at this great Fitzroy Primary School event. All students will have a
piece of artwork on display and for sale for only $5.00, there will also be works by local artists to be
auctioned. Over the last few years this event has become a Fitzroy Primary School tradition and a
great way to celebrate the talents of our students and raise money for our school. This event is
driven by our fabulous Art teacher Nick and I thank him for his energy, passion and commitment in
making this event happen for our school and wider community.
A
big congratulations to George and Jean-Bosco who competed in the District Athletics
Competition last week. Both students came 2nd in the Interschool Athletics last term and
therefore qualified for the District Athletics. George competed in shot-put And Jean-Bosco
competed in discus and both came fourth at the district level. I know that both students were great
competitors and great ambassadors for Fitzroy Primary School and I congratulate both of them on
this achievement.
L
arge amounts of clothing are collected from the yard after school each day and placed in the
lost property in the first aid room. Please check this room for lost property, make sure all
articles of clothing are named and ENCOURAGE children to be responsible for their own belongings.
Although the term is only a couple of weeks old lost property is already overflowing!
H
ats! Hats! Hats! By now ALL children should have their wide brimmed hat or legionnaires hat
with them to wear at break time, lunchtime and during all outside activities. As a ‘Sunsmart’
school this is a compulsory component of our school uniform and children who do not have a hat
will be asked to remain in the shade. Please ensure that the hat is labelled clearly with child’s name
and is included on a daily basis in the school bag. It is really important that as a school community
we encourage our children to support our ‘Sunsmart’ policy.
A
s detailed planning for 2016 is now well underway, it is essential that the school is notified of
any student in Level Foundation – Year 5 who is not intending to return to Fitzroy Primary
School in 2016. If your child is not returning to Fitzroy Primary School in 2016 please complete the
form in this newsletter and return to the school office as soon as possible. I also remind parents
with a Foundation aged child for 2016 who have not yet enrolled, to do so as a matter of urgency.
Remember all new Foundation enrolments require a copy of your child’s Immunisation and Birth
Certificates as part of the enrolment process. In some cases you may need to provide a passport, for
example, if enrolling from overseas for the first time in an Australian school.
L
ooking forward to our Art Show in a couple of weeks. Make sure you have
the date in your diary and look forward to seeing all families there on the
night.
Warm Regards

GHOSTPATROL- PLUS PHOTOS
David Booth (ghostpatrol) is a local artist who has very generously donated one of his works to our
Art Show to be auctioned. As well as this donation David also offered to donate the painting of a
mural to our school. David painted the mural last week and we are proud to say it looks fantastic
on our George St building. Students got a chance to ask David questions about his artwork and
view his work as he painted, this was a fantastic opportunity for our students to engage with a local
artist. We thank David for his time and generosity to our school.

HEALTHY EATING AT FIZTROY PRIMARY SCHOOL
Fitzroy Primary School promotes healthy eating at our school so that our students have set
themselves up for the best opportunity to concentrate on their learning.
At Fitzroy Primary School our students;



Need a health breakfast before school
Need a healthy lunch and snacks.
Should have a water bottle and drink water throughout the day
Our healthy eating policy at our school means we have therefore banned juice boxes and
chilli noodles. These items do not fit in with our healthy eating policy and therefore students are
not allowed to bring these to school.

DIVISION ATHLETICS
George: On Wednesday I went to Athletics to represent FPS in Shot Put 11-year-old boys. JB and I
were the only two students from FPS who qualified. I was nervous at first but also excited at the
same time. I was coming 3rd but at the last second a kid came out of nowhere and ruined my
chances. I ended up coming 4th place. I was still proud of myself for trying my best. It was a great
day!
Jean Bosco: On Wednesday I went to athletics to represent FPS in the 10-year-old boys Discus.
There were many other schools competing. I was really nervous in the morning but when started I
felt a lot more confident. I came 4th like George. Thanks to Sam and Edward (George's Dad) for
coming along and supporting us.
