There are numerous famous Mauritian artists. While some have left the island to
become popular in other countries such as England, France, or Germany, others have
stayed and exhibit their work in the various art galleries in Mauritius. Come learn about
the different forms of art practiced in Mauritius, from opera to those in everyday life.
Come and learn about the astonishing origin of the Vietnamese people, the
unprecedented and riveting story of the creation of mother nature. Various Vietnamese
myths will be discussed to provide further insight into this nation’s culture and history.
China, with over 5000 years of recorded history, is the world’s longest, continuous
civilization. The vast country is home to 1.3 billion people that belong to 56 ethnic
groups and speak 250 languages. Australia, a country with over 200 years of formal
recognition as an independent country, is home to an incredible array of fauna and
flora that are endemic to the country. This presentation will focus on travel in places
around each country that have cultural, historical and mainstream significance. Learn
about special foods, festivals, lifestyles and interesting events at those places, and be
inspired to travel. There will be food and snacks!
Confucius (551-479 BCE), was a Chinese thinker, political figure, educator, and
founder of the Ru School of Chinese thought. His teachings, preserved in the Lunyu or
Analects, form the foundation of much of subsequent Chinese speculation on the
education and comportment of the ideal man, how such an individual should live his life
and interact with others, and the forms of society and government in which he should
participate. The presentation will introduce the life of Confucius and his major ideas,
including their effects on the Chinese society, as well as the recognition of Confucian
ideas in the world.
