Paws In Time, Inc. www.pawsintime.net Volume 6, Issue 1 HAPPY NEW YEAR 8 0 20 As your friends at Paws In Time, we would like to wish you all happy and safe new year filled with many special blessings. For you dog we wish them much fun play here with their friends, abundant health, updated shots (unfortunately), soft beds to sleep on at night in a warm home, slippers to chew on (every now and then), many balls and toys to play with, good food and as many treats as they can stand. Of course, long walks shared with you will be good for them also. NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS As long as we are making New Years Resolutions...sometimes we make resolutions that revolve around getting in better shape or maybe even losing weight. It may be time to take a look at your dog to see if maybe he/she should also lose some weight or get into better shape. Remember that we now offer you a program of responsible weight loss for your dog right here at Paws In Time. If you are interested in checking this out for your dog, please feel free to pick up a brochure about our Fit Camp. A special thank you to all of you who provided us with treats and goodies this holiday season. They were enjoyed by one and all! Good think we have active jobs, or we’d all be in Fido Fit Camp. January 2008 IS YOUR DOG UP TO DATE? Is your dog up to date on their shots? We really need your help in keeping up to date shot records on your dog in this facility. It is a state law that we have on file your dog’s most recent shot record. Please understand that this facility is licensed by the state of Illinois and as such, we have to be ready for spontaneous inspections at any time. When the inspector comes to our lovely facility, she tours around and will point to dogs on the floor. We then have to come up to the front and pull the files out of our cabinets and she takes the file to review what we have as far as shots and incident reports etc. If the file is found to be lacking in accuracy or up to date information, the first offense is punishable with a fine, and any subsequent offenses could mean closing of the facility. So please realize that we are not trying to make life difficult. WE MUST HAVE UP TO DATE INFORMATION AT ALL TIMES. To that end, I would like to again address the fact that the state requires your dog to be vaccinated annually (at the minimum) for: rabies, distemper and parvo virus. Many vets also offer the 3 year version of these shots, which is fine. Regarding Bordatella, we must have a record of that being done EVERY 6 months. In addition, you should have your dog on monthly flea and tick preventative for the overall safety and health of not only your dog, but all who come to play at Paws In Time. I know this message may seem a bit strong, but believe me, it is not my intention to have Paws In Time even remotely threatened for not having proper information on your dog. I appreciate your help in this matter. JANUARY DOG OF THE MONTH F YD O L Our January Dog of the Month is Floyd Harriet. He is a 2 year old red Labrador Retriever we often call “Clifford the Big Red Dog”. We also call him “the burglar”, as he is very adept at stealing things off shelves (paper towel rolls or squirt bottles) and right out of our pockets (gloves, mittens...) Suddenly...the chase is on! This is his very favorite game, playing keep away from the staff, and he often brings other dogs into the game as well. Floyd is a very friendly dog with nary a mean bone in his body...he gets along with big and small dogs alike. Next time you see Floyd, give him and friendly pat...just keep a tight grip on your gloves! PUPPY CLASS On Thursday, January 10th, we will have our next puppy class starting at 6:30 pm. At this time, there is one spot left in the class. Class size is limited to 10 students so we can all get some work done and have a bit of fun too. The class will meet on Thursday evenings from 6:30-7:30 from January 10, 2008 until Thursday, February 14th, at which time we will celebrate our graduation. During the course of the class, we will work on all the basic obedience commands: sit, down, stay, heel and come. Each evening we play for about 15 minutes so everyone gets some energy burned off, then we work for 30 minutes, then end the hour with more play. Everyone goes home tired and happy. The cost of the class is $150, payable on the first night. Bring your puppy, some treats, and a 4’ or 6’ leash. (not a flexi leash). I look forward to working with your puppies! SPRING BREAK The holidays are barely over, and now we have to start planning for the spring break travel season. At this time we are mostly booked, with only a few of the smaller spa units remaining open and those will go quickly. We would like to ask that you call quickly to make your reservations so we can try to accommodate your needs. If we are not able to book you at this time, we will put your dog on a wait list and do everything we can to get the dog in, but cannot make any promises. As hard as we try, we are not always able to get everyone in. If you have made reservations for spring break and do not think you will be needing the spot, please call as soon as possible to cancel so we may accommodate other clients still looking for “a place at the inn”. The best advice of all is book early! GETTING TO KNOW.... GAIL At home with Sparky My name is Gail Sullivan, and I have been with Paws In Time for nearly 4 years. I have a degree in English from Trinity University in San Antonio, but animals are my calling. In addition to playing with the dogs in the back, I also do the newsletter and the Dog of the Month poster (and headshots!). I take LOTS of pictures of your dogs! I live in Geneva and have volunteered with various animal shelters since college. I have been married 21 years to Mike, and have 2 children, Chris, 16 and Riley, 13, my dog, 3 cats, a monster goldfish, plus anywhere from 4-10 foster kittens at any given time. (I volunteer with H.E.L.P.) I love to read, write, cook, travel, and watch my kids in sports and band. IN MEMORIAM BUBBA 1996-2007 Sadly, we lost another long time client, Bubba Logan, a mini pinscher, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge this past December at age 11. He was one of Julie’s earliest clients, and in spite of limited abilities to see and hear, he came to Paws In Time with his brother, Charlie, a pug, up until the very end. He had a good life with the Logans, who rescued him as an adult long after his cute puppy days. He loved doggie cookies and ice cream and being held. Bubba will be terribly missed by everyone.
