Allenton Elementary MARCH 2017 Parent News Thank you for your patience as we move into a very busy time with construction. It has been exciting to watch! This week is “Read Across America Week" at Allenton School. We have been celebrating Dr. Seuss and reading with fun dress-up days, special snacks, and exciting activities! We’ll end the week with an all-school game of Book Bingo. If you haven’t already, please remember to send a new or gently used book with your child that will be used for prizes. School will resume on April 24. NATIONAL SCHOOL BREAKFAST WEEK March 6-10 is National School Breakfast Week! There will be prizes every morning for breakfast participants, along with yummy food. Mrs. Johnson will be giving out punch cards at the beginning of the week and every time a student comes for breakfast, his/her card will get a punch. For each punch, his/her name will be entered for a chance to win a basket of goodies! Come check out breakfast during the week of March 6-10! JUMP ROPE FOR HEART On February 14th, all K-5 grade classes participated in this year's Jump Rope for Heart event in physical education. Not only did they jump rope, but they also did many other activities that elevated their heart rate to keep their heart healthy. We talked about the importance of exercise and eating right to have a healthy heart for a lifetime. This year, we raised $7,761.85 for the American Heart Association. This passes last year's all time high of $7,621.00. Thank you to everyone who donated to help save lives! ROLLER SKATING UNIT On Monday, March 6th, 3rd-5th graders will start roller skating in physical education. Every student needs to wear a helmet to roller skate in physical education. They are responsible for bringing in their own helmet. Students may start bringing their helmets in this week and keep them in their cubby throughout the duration of the 2 week unit. Please make sure that the helmet is labeled with your child’s name and that it is at school on their physical education day. SCHOLARSHIP The PBO is sponsoring a $500 scholarship for graduating Seniors at SHS. In order to be eligible, an applicant must: a. Have been a student of Allenton Elementary School for at least four full school years of attendance. b. Have a minimum 2.5 Grade Point Average (GPA). c. Have been accepted at an accredited institute of higher education. Forms can be found in the SHS Guidance Department. The application deadline is Thursday, April 13th, 2017. SUMMER SCHOOL The 2017 Summer School Catalog and Registration Form will be on the Slinger School District webpage starting March 15. Hard copies will also be available at any Slinger School Office starting March 15 as well. Registration for Summer School will begin March 20 and end April 13. Summer school will start Thursday, June 15 and end Friday, July 14. There will not be school on Monday, July 3 and Tuesday, July 4. JUMPSTART SUMMER SCHOOL Allenton Elementary School will have its own Jumpstart summer school program to be held at the Slinger Elementary School (due to construction) from August 7-18. Your child’s teacher will be contacting you soon, if not already, if Jumpstart would be valuable to your child. YEARBOOK ORDERS Order envelopes for yearbooks will be sent home soon with your oldest child. TEACHER REQUESTS During the upcoming months, the staff will be working on creating class lists for next school year. The teachers put forth much effort in designing class lists that offer the best possible placement for all of our children. If you would like, you may contact the office about your child’s learning style, and the type of teaching you feel would benefit your child. Requests are due by May 1st. If you have any questions, please feel free to call or e-mail me at [email protected] STUDENT ARTWORK The Slinger School District will have 55 pieces of art on display at the Slinger High School in the Owl Gallery from February 21March 17, 2016. Artwork from 5Kth 12 grade students has been selected. Congratulations to the following students from Allenton Elementary who will have their artwork displayed: Leila Muro, Violet Schulteis, Kendall Strobel, Vienna Baker, Hailey Masters, Madison Hess, Raye Riley, Sarah Rothenhoefer, Evelyn Schilter, Lexi Bamke and Brianna Geldreich. You are invited to join us for the gallery reception for students, parents and the public on Friday, March 3rd, from 6-7 p.m. Hope to see you there!! SchoolKits Co-Chair Needed Are you a detailed person that feels comfortable entering data into a computer? The PBO needs someone to help with this year's School Kit Sale. Our current Committee chair would work with you to show you how the sale works -- with the goal of taking over the Sale as Committee Chair next year. Planning will begin this March with the sale taking place in the Spring. Soon you will be getting an informational letter and order form, so watch your oldest child’s backpack. The pick-up day will be Friday, May 19th. Thank you for supporting your school! Teacher Grants The PBO approved $1451.00 in school grants. Your donations will fund Scholastic Readers, 5K Kindles, Supplies for the 3rd Grade Egg Hatching Project and Book Companions for Mrs. Hawkins. Thank you to all of the families that supplied dinner for the teachers on conference night! Think Spring!
