CURRICULUM CONTENT: YEAR 5
This curriculum information has been organised into Year Groups for English, mathematics and
science. However, all other areas of the curriculum have been organised into Key Stage (KS)
areas, that is KS1 (Y1 & Y2), Lower KS2 (Y3 & Y4) and Upper KS2 (Y5 & Y6). As a result of this
you will find the statements are the same for Years 1/2, as well as Years 3/4, and Years 5/6.
This work will cover the 2 year period.
The statements highlighted in yellow are those your child will be focusing on this term.

Talking about local household items that are made from natural resources (furniture, kitchen
surfaces, roof tiles)

Using the Internet to research topics (we think this is a really good idea)

Watching Horrible Histories clips on You Tube or iPlayer to learn about famous historical figures.
Reading

Children could be encouraged to read a selection of biographies about people who are well
known for a range of achievements. This could include designers, artists, explorers, inventors,
scientists, sports stars.

Researching and reading about key historical figures from our past.
Spelling

Reading with them and pointing out key words, then challenging your child to spell them by
covering the word and revealing each letter as they get it right.

Ask your child to think of famous people who inspire them in order to then practice spelling their
names.
Maths

Research how many years ago key historical figures lived. How long did they live for? What
century did they live?
