Call for Artists Proposals The Prince George and Area Aboriginal Health Improvement Committee (AHIC) is seeking proposals from local Indigenous artists for an installation art piece to be displayed at UHNBC, with photographic images of the art piece on signs for other care sites and facilities in Prince George. Artists are invited to submit proposals that fit with the project theme described below, to the Prince George and Area AHIC by March 20th, 2017 at 11:59pm. Overview of the Prince George and Area AHIC The Prince George and Area AHIC bring together First Nations and Aboriginal community members, and people from organizations that serve urban First Nations and Aboriginal people to discuss issues and concerns related to health and wellbeing of Aboriginal communities. The AHICs develop local initiatives to engage in dialogue with health service providers and Northern Health, providing advice and guidance on an array of concerns and issues faced in their respective communities. Project Theme The PG and Area AHIC would like to acknowledge the Lheidli T’enneh Nation through a welcome sign to be displayed in the University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC) and other health facilities operating within the traditional territory. The welcome sign in Carrier will offer a learning experience to nonIndigenous people and provide presence of Indigenous inclusion in health care facilities that can be a source of comfort for Indigenous patients and visitors of health care. Art proposals must: Include the traditional welcoming in Carrier Be scalable to be reproduced in poster/paper format and distributed to Northern Health care sites/facilities in Prince George and other care facilities. Fit the following dimensions of the display space: 132 ¾ in X 31 ½ in (see attached picture) Please note that the selected artist will be required to work with the Prince George and Area Aboriginal Health Improvement Committee, and consult with the Lheidli T’enneh Nation during the design and process of the art piece creation Award of Commission The successful applicant will be awarded up to $7000, which includes cost of materials and supplies for the art piece. Upon successful selection, a Letter of Agreement will be signed between the artist and the Prince George Health Services Administrator as representation of Northern Health. Ownership and Copyright Ownership and copyright will belong to the Prince George and Area Aboriginal Health Improvement Committee. The PG and Area AHIC will reserve all rights to photograph or otherwise document the art piece to use at its discretion in publications or other print materials once the art piece has been completed. Site Description The original art piece (sign) will be displayed in the lobby at UHNBC (picture of space below) Timeframe for Completion The successful applicant will be notified of selection by March 29th, 2017, with a completion date for the art piece by the end of May 2017.
