Please note, it is possible to unscrew the platform to remove it from the base, or you can lock the scales and leave the platform in position. • Store your scales securely, ensuring the scales are locked. To lock the scales see below. The weighing platform is very delicate and if excess pressure is exerted on the platform, the scales may no longer work. • Overload the scales by more than 3kg (6lb 9oz) or the scales will no longer work. Excessively pressing on the weighing platform or placing the scales upside down may cause damage. Please note: Any fault caused by such overloading will not be covered by your guarantee. • Immerse the scales in water or put them in a dishwasher, as this may cause them to malfunction. 6 Kitchen Points Scales 20/12/06 14:23 Page 7 Setting up your Scales Loading the Battery 1. In Add & Weigh mode, it gives the current POINTS values total for the recipe. Confirms an entry. If you are searching for foods in the database, use the alphabet keys to search as you would on a mobile phone (see pages 5& 6). If you are calculating POINTS values (using the input function), use the numbers on the keys to enter in the nutritional values. This allows you to calculate the POINTS values in any food, if you have the nutritional information per 100g. (See page 8 for further instructions). 8 Kitchen Points Scales 20/12/06 14:23 Page 9 Using your Scales: Screen This icon will appear when you are in the ‘Add & Weigh’ mode. Numbers will appear here in ‘Add & Weigh’ mode. This is the number of food items you have added to your recipe. This is the number of POINTS values in the food just weighed, or the POINTS values in the recipe, if you are in the ‘Add & Weigh’ mode. This is the weight of the food you are currently weighing, in either grams, or pounds and ounces. 9 Kitchen Points Scales 20/12/06 14:23 Page 10 Using your Scales: Turning on the Scales Press the ON/ZERO button to turn on the unit. Back to top 11 Kitchen Points Scales 20/12/06 14:23 Page 12 Zeroing the Scales 1. If you are weighing a food in a bowl, then you will need to zero the weight of the bowl, before you start adding the food. 2. Place the bowl on top of the scales. The screen will show you how much the bowl weighs. 3. Press the ON/ZERO button to zero the weight, so that the screen shows the weight of the bowl as 0g. This is so that you can start weighing your food, without having to account for the weight of the bowl. NB. If you remove the bowl, it will show a negative weight. This is just to remind you that the weight has been adjusted, and you can press the ON/ZERO button again to turn the reading to 0g. Back to top 12 Kitchen Points Scales 20/12/06 14:23 Page 13 Weighing Food 1. Place the food either directly onto the scales or in a bowl (remembering that you need to zero the weight first). 2. The more letters you enter, the more refined your search will be. (e.g. Press the CD 1 button once for “C”, then press the GH 3 button twice for “H”.) 4. Press ENTER. This will take you to the first entry in the Food List that uses these letters. (e.g. Cheddar Cheese). 13 Kitchen Points Scales 20/12/06 14:23 Page 14 Weighing Food 5. Clearing your last entry To clear your last entry, press CE once. Your screen will then display 0g. Back to top 14 Kitchen Points Scales 20/12/06 14:23 Page 15 Add & Weigh If you want to find the POINTS values of a recipe on the scales, then use the Add & Weigh function. This will save the ingredients information in the scales so that you can find the total POINTS values for the recipe. (NB. You can add a maximum of 20 ingredients to one recipe). 1. Weigh the first food as you would when weighing a single food in the standard Weighing mode (see page 5). However, once the name of the food and the weight is displayed press the ADD button rather than POINTS button. 2. The screen will then display the words ‘FOOD ADDED’, to confirm that the food information is stored in the memory. 3. Add the next food to the scales (either separately or to the same bowl) and repeat step 1. (NB. Whilst you are working in the ‘Add & Weigh’ mode, the ADD icon to the left of the screen will be displayed. The item number will also be displayed.) 15 Kitchen Points Scales 20/12/06 14:23 Page 16 Add & Weigh 4. You can repeat this process with up to 20 ingredients. If you want to check the running total of POINTS values, you can do so, after you have confirmed your last added food. Once the ‘FOOD ADDED’ message has been displayed, press the POINTS button. The scales will then display the current POINTS values total. 5. You can then continue adding more ingredients, by pressing ‘ADD’. While you are in the ‘Add & Weigh’ mode, you can scroll through the foods that you have added to your recipe. Then press the CE button and the screen will then display the question: 3. Press ENTER to confirm that you want to clear the added food. (Press CE if you want to continue with your recipe without clearing the item). 4. The food will then be deleted from the recipe. To continue adding more ingredients press ‘ADD’.
