Head of School Newsletter 8 - Scotts Park Primary School

Issue 8
Friday 23rd October 2015
Head of School’s message:
Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome to the final newsletter of the first half term. It has been a frenetic, fabulous, frantic, fun-filled first few weeks.
(alliteration in response to a challenge from a year 5 pupil!). One thing is for sure you never know what is going to happen
when you arrive in the morning. I can honestly say that it has been a pleasure to interact with the pupils, staff and parents
on a daily basis and I am more confident than ever that working together we can take Scotts Park to even greater heights.
It has been said that an effective organisation should be like a stick of rock, wherever you look you should see the same
core values and purpose running through it. This is what we are working towards and the key word we want to run
through the Scotts Park rock is Learning. This must be our core purpose and influence everything we do. I do not just mean
learning for the pupils I mean learning for staff as well. In my view any teacher who feels they have nothing new to learn cannot be effective as
they are not able to model the learning process for the pupils. I am therefore encouraging staff to take more risks in their teaching and to
demonstrate that failure is a valuable part of the learning process. This does, of course, mean we will sometimes make mistakes but we will
learn from these and continue to move forwards, determined to be the school your children deserve.
I have shared the 9 core values I think are at the heart of an effective school with the staff and I also
want to share them with you. In the very best schools these values becomes embedded in all aspects
of school life, modelled by the pupils, staff, parents, governors and visitors alike. I see a school as an
integral part of the local community and this can only happen where there is a relationship built on
these values, especially honesty and openness, respect and integrity. I hope you have seen evidence of
these over the first half term and I am already looking forward to taking this further when we return.
I hope you all have a great week with your children and thank you for trusting us with their education.
Best wishes, Harvey Eperon
Messages from Mr Doyle
Well done to Imogen, Lily, Izzy-May, Izabella, Elizabeth, Esme and Amy for taking
part in the English Schools FA 7 a-side playing. Although the girls didn't qualify for
the Finals they played really well against strong Crofton and Chislehurst teams. This
should set them in good stead for the next tournament which takes place on Thursday 5th November at Bromley F.C.
The boys made the finals by winning their group in the qualifying round beating
Clare House and Edgebury. They remained unbeaten drawing with Green Street
Green and Pickhurst and beating Oak Lodge and Alexandria before narrowly losing
3-2 on penalties to Red Hill inn the semi final. Well done to Luke W, Luke S, Louis,
Joel, Jacob, Kian, Tate, James, Hudson and Georgi.
The inter-house football winners are Mars for upper KS2 . Well done to them.
Twenty Scotts Park children took part in the Bromley medium sized school Gala. Everyone competed really well with some excellent performances from Geelan,
Lily, Jemima, Harriet, Grace, Alexandra, Imogen, Ruby, Sofia, Lucyne, Martha, Luke
W, Luke S, Will, James, Daniel , Lukas, Luke C, Freddie, Pranav and Jake.
