THE PULSE OF COUNTRYSIDE
The Head and the Body
Picture a guy getting ready for the
day in front of the bathroom mirror. In his daily routine to look presentable to the world, all of his personal hygiene efforts are focused
on the neck up. Great attention
and detail is given to his hair, his
face, his eyes and his teeth, but no
care is ever given to the body.
Never a shower. Never a change of
clothes.
That would be ridiculous…even
unsanitary. Proper care should not
only include our head, but our
body as well.
Colossians 1:18 informs us that.....
“Jesus is the head of the body, the
church.”
We are the Church - The body of
Christ....His body. We are the extension of Christ’s hands, legs, feet,
arms and heart to the world. Now
Jesus would never be guilty of neglecting His body any more than
we would ours.
Many argue that they love Jesus,
but do not care much for church.
But they forget that the church is
the body of Christ. If we say we
love Christ who is our head, we
will also love the body of Christ. In
fact, it is impossible to love the
head while neglecting His body, the
Church. Listen to how the apostle
John explains it.
VOLUME 15, ISSUE 1
January 2016
- Pastor Jon Black
1 John 4:21 - And
he has given us this
command: Anyone
who loves God
must also love their
brother and sister.
1 John 2:4 - Whoever says, "I know
him," but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not
in that person.
So as you wake up each morning to
prepare yourself for the day by
brushing your teeth, brushing your
hair, shaving your face or putting
on makeup, don’t forget to change
out of your pajamas before you
head out the door....and please
don’t forget your deodorant. (:
Care for your body as well. And as
you do, remember, what your head,
Jesus Christ, expects of you in regards to His body. How will you
love or encourage someone in the
body of Christ today?

Next Step Class for adults of all ages (child care provided by reservation.) The three-hour class begins at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 10 and is designed to assist you in determining your “next step” as
a part of the family at Countryside. It explains who we are, what we as a Covenant church believe,
and how we function, both on a denominational level as well as the local church. If you are interested
in becoming a member, or would like to know more about it, please sign up on your Response Card
or call the Church Office, 241-4499.
This ‘n That
Several of us enjoyed an
evening of music with
Sammie & Michelle King
last month. Not only was
the music delightful, but
the refreshments were
good too. Unfortunately,
someone got home with
the wrong silver tray. The owner would love for it to be
returned to the Church Office. It’s round in shape with
gold handles and is an heirloom piece that has great sentimental value. Thanks in advance for your help in returning
this so we can get it to its owner.
We are excited to announce the creation of a new church
pictorial directory! And we need you to help us. There
are numerous ways to volunteer … help at a sign-up table
on Sundays during January before and after worship services or serve as a hostess when the pictures are taken by
Lifetouch - 2-3 hour shifts per day. Hosts welcome our
families and complete check-in paperwork. Photography
dates and times are:

Contact Linda in the Church Office to volunteer as a hostess or to assist our church family as they sign-up on a Sunday morning.
You can also schedule your appointment on line. Simply
go to our website, www.csidecov.org. On the Info button
click “Register for Pictorial Directory,” and select your
date and time.
Several new things that you will find this time include:
1) Pricing brochures will be available at our sign-up tables so you know what to expect prior to having your
pictures taken.
2) You will also be able to “cash in” and enjoy 20% off
the purchase of any Lifetouch products.
3) You will receive a free 8x10 portrait of your family.
4) You will also receive a free copy of the 2016 Church
Pictorial Directory.
As a church staff, we look forward to having this exceptional ministry tool available to our church family. So be
sure to schedule an appointment!

Thank You’s
“Thank you to all those who provided treats during the holidays
to our church staff and family. We appreciate your
thoughtfulness!”
“Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers
over the last two years. This has been a period of
many ups and downs and there have been many
times when your support was very helpful. A special
thanks to the Men’s Bible Study for helping with the recent
storm clean up. Karen probably wouldn’t have approved of a guy
with a boot and a crutch running a chain saw! Thanks again for
all the help and prayers.”
Jerry & Karen Linn
“Each of us thank you for touching our lives through the monetary gifts that you gave to us this Christmas season. We thank
you too for the many acts of love and support that we received
throughout the year. We are blessed!”
Your Church Staff
What a
miracle!
January 24 is Right to Life Sunday, and our
church family will receive an offering for the Salina
Pregnancy Center that day.
At the beginning of the month we will have
plastic baby bottles available which you can fill with
coins and cash throughout the month of January.
We will then receive these filled bottles on behalf of the Salina Pregnancy Center on Sunday morning the 24th. Please plan to participate in this worthwhile project.

free to express your greeting only verbally … “It’s good to see you this morning” or “I don’t know that we’ve ever met. My
