HS - ART HISTORY WORKSHOP
Tuesdays, 9:30–11am
#16SG36 Mar 1–May 3 (no 3/22 & 3/29)
A hands-on tour of the history of art, of painting,
and also touching on architecture. If only it were
possible to take students to the finest art
museums in the world or bring them to Monticello!
But what we can do is open up art books and turn
to the luscious reproductions of those paintings
and buildings and dive into those worlds created
there. We will discuss what the artists were
considering when they composed their paintings;
how they decided what to paint; and what they did
to make it look so wonderful. Make your own
paintings working on those principles. Analyze
the building designs of Thomas Jefferson and use
his design ideas to make your own building
designs. We will also look at the great masters of
painting and at least one architect from the
1500-1700’s, among them, Rubens, Georges
de la Tour, and Thomas Jefferson. Instructor:
Suzanne Brault

mugs, or boxes with or without a lid. Wall
plaques can be made with raised up sculpted
scenes across the font face. Everyone will
have a chance to learn how to make other
sorts of pieces such as animals, people or
even a small home model, or perhaps a lantern
with a cut out pattern. Bring a box (shoe size
