Looking Forward
Parents, this year
will be an exciting one for
your children. They will be
exploring life science by completing laboratory experiments, projects, and homework that correspond to each
chapter of the book. We will
be starting with the first two
chapters and will hopefully
have them completed by the
end of the third week. Your
child will need the supplies
listed on this newsletter
along with their basic writing
utensils. A weekly checklist
of what we will be doing in
class will be sent home with
your child every Monday in
order to keep you up to date.
This checklist is for yours and
your child’s convenience.
In life science we will
discuss the many different
classifications of living things
(mammals, birds, reptiles,
amphibians, fish, bacteria,
etc.) The classroom will inhabit a few friends that fall
under these classifications.
Your child will have five classroom pets, a chinchilla, a
guinea pig, a hedgehog, and
two beta fish he/she can interact with. (NOTE: A permission slip and allergy form will
be sent home to be completed in order for him/her to be
able to handle and care for
them.) Aside from everyday
animals, they will also be
learning about plants and the
processes, photosynthesis
and respiration. Before
About Ms. Stoner
My name is Kylee Stoner. I graduated with my BSE,
and my emphasis is in math and science. This is my
first year teaching, and I am very excited to have
been chosen for the new 8th Grade Life Science
teacher position here at FMS. I was born and raised
in this area and attended this same school from K-12.
I hope to be as inspiring and helpful as my teachers
were, so I can encourage your child to enjoy and
absorb as much of his/her education as he/she can!
learning about the different
animal classifications and
plant processes, we will be
discussing the difference between plant and animal cells
which will be accompanied by
a “Cell Model” project.
Life Science is a way
of examining the similarities
and differences among living
things. We will have an excess amount of fun in class
with all of the experiments,
projects, assignments, and
pets. I can’t wait to see you
all at the open house on Friday, August 15, 2014, and will
gladly answer or discuss anything you may be concerned
with.
