Adult Education Classes • GED® Preparation • Official GED® Practice Testing

Adult Basic Education / Fast Track to GED®
Adult Basic Education
Adult Basic Education classes are designed to help adults improve their skills in reading, writing, and mathematics.
• Classes are also designed to assist adults with basic
computer literacy skills needed to pass the GED®.
• Classes are for adults 18 and over and no longer enrolled in
public education.
• Career counseling services are also provided to students.
First semester courses are scheduled for
September 8, 2014 - January 22, 2015
Second semester courses are scheduled for
January 26, 2015 - May 28, 2015
Cost - $60 (includes textbooks)
Tuition must be paid prior to beginning class.
Before beginning classes, students must:
• Register on designated registration dates
(students must provide a government issued photo ID)
• Take a placement test (TABE) which determines the
appropriate class level.
• Attend orientation.
NOTE - Classes have a minimum number of participants that
must be met two weeks prior to the start of the class. Classes
may have to be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment.
Don’t delay. Register early. Registration begins August 11, 2014.
Fast Track to GED®
Classes provide targeted instruction to students preparing to take
the Official GED® test. Small group and individualized instruction
is provided in the following content areas:
• Reasoning through Language Arts
• Mathematical Reasoning
• Science
• Social Studies
Classes also include:
• Test taking strategies
• Digital literacy and preparing for computer-based testing
• Practicing Evaluation-based writing
• Official GED® Practice testing
NOTE - Students must take the TABE and Official GED® Practice
test and earn a minimum score to qualify for this option.
Fall semester courses are scheduled for
September 8, 2014 - November 20, 2014
Winter semester courses are scheduled for
December 1, 2014 - February 27, 2015
Spring semester courses are scheduled for
March 2, 2015 - May 15, 2015
Online option available - some restrictions apply.
COST - $60 (online class - $60 plus cost of books and materials)
Tuition must be paid prior to beginning class.

English Literacy/Civics
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
• ESOL classes feature English Literacy/Civics education with
an emphasis on speaking, reading, writing, and understanding
American culture.
• English Literacy/Civics education provides instruction that will help
adults learn about civic participation, the history of the United States,
and how to prepare for citizenship through naturalization
• A 70+ hour commitment is required. Classes meet twice weekly
for three hours each session.
• Students are expected to bring to class a three-ring
binder, paper or notebook, and pens or pencils.
• Career counseling services are also provided to students.

• Las clases de ESOL cuentan con educación Inglés Alfabetización / Educación cívica con énfasis en la expresión oral,
lectura , escritura y comprensión de la cultura americana.
• Educación Inglés Alfabetización / Educación Cívica proporciona
instrucción que ayudará a los adultos a aprender acerca de la
participación cívica, la historia de los Estados Unidos, y cómo
prepararse para la ciudadanía por naturalización.
• Se requiere un compromiso de 70 + horas . Las clases se
reúnen dos veces por semana durante tres horas cada sesión.
• Se espera que los estudiantes lleven a clase un aglutinante con
tres anillos, de papel o un cuaderno y lápices o bolígrafos.
• Servicios de orientación profesional también se proporcionan a
los estudiantes.
Cursos del primer semestre están previstas para el
8 septiembre 2014 a 22 enero 2015
Cursos del segundo cuatrimestre se han programado para
26 enero 2015 hasta 28 mayo 2015
Antes de comenzar las clases, los estudiantes deben:

Registration: Students are required to complete a registration
form and attend an evaluation to determine class level before
entering classes. The evaluation may take up to 2 hours.
Students must present a government-issued photo ID at the time
of registration.

Evaluation & Orientation Information
All students must take a pre-assessment prior to beginning classes. Adult Basic Education and GED students must take the TABE
while ESOL students must take the CASAS. Please allow up to
two hours for a brief orientation and the pre-assessment.

Please do not contact the locations where classes are being conducted.
Enrollment information
When the registration form has been completed and tuition has
been received, an individual is immediately enrolled and should
be in attendance the first class session. Enrollment is accepted
on a “first-come, first-served” basis until the maximum number of
persons is accommodated. Registrants will not be notified unless
the requested course has been filled or cancelled. Courses are
open to adults 18 years of age or older who are no longer enrolled
in a secondary school program.
Refunds
Refunds are automatic when courses are filled or cancelled,
otherwise there are no refunds.
Class Cancellations/School Closings
Class sessions may be extended due to weather cancellations
or other unforeseen circumstances. Classes will not meet when
schools are closed for holidays or other emergencies. If schools
close early, announcements will be made on TV99 for Comcast
customers and through other local TV/radio stations.
