Taylor is the Lady Tigers' third head coach since 1975. Under her leadership, the Lady Tigers have finished as the Southwestern Athletic Conference Regular Season Co-Champions four seasons and finshed as the 2008 SWAC Women’s Basketball Cahmpions. During the 2003-04 season the Lady Tigers compiled a 23-7 overall record and again clinched a share of the SWAC Regular Season Championship. In 2004-05 the team was forced into the task of rebuilding. The young Lady Tigers rsponded with an 11-17 record and a 9-9 conference mark. During the 2005-06 season, Taylor led JSU to another great finish; capturing a co-championship for the SWAC regular season. The Lady Tigers went on to compete in the NIT, where they fell to Rice in the first round. In 2006-07 JSU finsihed with 22-10 overall record and a 14-4 conference mark. The Lady Tigers made another trip to the NIT, falling to Tulane in the first round. Prior to her year and a half stint with the Starzz, Taylor was the head coach at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago, Illinois. She compiled a school record of 42-40 from 1993-97 and established the school's first Division I winning season in 1993. She was honored as the East Coast Conference Coach-of-the-Year during the 1993-94 season. From 1991-93 Taylor coached at American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts. She was selected as the school's first full-time head women's basketball coach. Taylor made school history by giving its women's program a winning season and setting nine school records. At Lamar University in Beaumont, Teas, she served as an assistant coach from 198791. Lamar made it to the regional finals while compiling a 29-5 overall record. Taylor began her coaching career in 1985 at her alma mater as a volunteer coach. A former player from 1980-84, she is ranked in the top ten in career scoring, rebounding and games played for Texas Southern. Taylor is a well-rounded coach who has a flair for commentating. She served as a color analyst for the Tiger Network, covering the JSU men's basketball games for two years. Her expertise in coaching and basketball was a welcomed addition to the broadcast. In 2002 MSN tapped her to assist on its telecast of the SWAC's Women Tournament Championship Game. Basketball may be her first love, but she is equally committed to education. Taylor is a member of the Black Education Scholarship Foundation and was named the organization's Honorary Chairperson for the Alberta Henry Education Foundation in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1997. She is also a 1997 recipient of "The Games Women Play Award" presented by the Women at the Top of Their Game Group in Chicago, Illinois. Other past honorees include Jackee Joyner-Kersee and Wilma Rudolph. A seasoned motivational speaker, Taylor hits the speaking circuit during the off-season. She has been featured as a guest speaker at sports banquets for East Side High School (Cleveland, MS), Murrah High School (Jackson, MS), and Gentry High School (Indianola, MS). Other speaking engagements include: the Senator Orrin Hatch Women's Conference, School of Career Programs, Junior League of Utah, Church of Latter Day Saints and Excellence Magazine. In 2002 the Lady Tigers hosted their first-ever "Book and Author Dinner" with activist Dick Gregory as the guest speaker. She currently serves as co-president of the SWAC women's basketball coaches, along with Sandy Pugh of Southern University. Taylor is also a board member of the I-55 YMCA in Jackson, Mississippi. Tomekia Reed Assistant Coach Tomekia Reed is in her third year as an assistant coach for the Jackson State Lady Tigers basketball team. Reed, a native of Jackson, Mississippi, comes to JSU from South Georgia Technical College, where she served as assistant women's basketball coach for three years. At South Georgia Tech Reed was responsible for administrative duties, travel coordination, recruiting and advising. She signed two of Georgia's top athletes and one of Mississippi's finest Dandy Dozen players. Prior to becoming the first assistant coach for the South Georgia Tech program, Reed served as a career transition specialist, working in high schools as a liaison for students transitioning into post-secondary education. Her responsibilities included helping students through the financial aid and application process as well as identifying scholarships and grants. From 2003-05 Reed was a campus recruiter for South Georgia Technical College. From 2002-03 she worked as a juvenile correction officer for the Sumter County Youth Development Agency in Americus, Georgia. Reed received an Associate Degree in Sports Medicine from Hinds Community College before attending the University of Southern Mississippi and Georgia Southwestern State University. At Hinds Reed was named most valuable player, led the team in scoring and rebounding. She was second in the conference in scoring and first in the conference in rebounding. Reed was named MJCAA first-team All-American. At Southern Mississippi Reed received the coach's award, was named most improved player and helped the team make it to the WNIT versus Georgia Tech. At Georgia Southwestern State she led the team in scoring and was named team most valuable player. In 2002 Reed received the Peach Belt Presidential Honor Roll Award. Reed went on to receive a Bachelor's Degree in exercise science from Georgia Southwestern State University. Reed is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and is the daughter of John and Cazinova Reed. Marc Lowe Assistant Coach The Topeka, Kansas native is a 1987 graduate of Missouri Valley College, Lowe was a member of the men's basketball team at Fort Scott Community College in Fort Scott, Kan. From there he headed north to Alaska Anchorage where he was a two-year member of the Seawolves squad from 1984-86. Lowe returned to the Midwest in 1987 to finish up his degree and also embarked on his coaching career at Missouri Valley College. He served as assistant varsity men's basketball coach and was also head coach of the junior varsity team. From there he went back north to serve as assistant men's basketball coach at The University of Alaska Anchorage, where he was part of the Great Alaska Shootout committee in addition to his assistant coaching duties. A two-year stint as assistant men's basketball coach at Allen County Community College followed his two year tenure at Alaska Anchorage for the 1993-94 season. Lowe also served as interim head coach for the women's basketball team during the 1994-95 season. He then went on to become an assistant coach with the men's basketball team at nearby Western Illinois. Lowe assisted with recruiting and scouting opponents in addition to coordinating camps and the team's strength and conditioning program while with the Leathernecks. In 2000, he joined the men's basketball staff at the University of Missouri-Rolla, where he handled team travel and monitored the student-athletes' academic progress in addition to his recruiting and scouting responsibilities.
