SALMA SAJIL When a person thinks about Westminster, The Palace

SALMA SAJIL
When a person thinks about Westminster, The Palace, the Abbey, wealth come to mind.
They don't think Westminster has any problems such as youth crime and poor education.
But no!
There are things that need to be changed! But no voice has spoken. I'm running for Youth
MP to be that voice. There are various issues which affect our Youth. Which I want to tackle!
I have three main issues I wish to deal with if elected.
The first problem is the streets. There are two parts concerning the streets.
To begin with, the crime rate of Westminster in December of 2015 was 20.74%, an increase
from November. If elected I would like to introduce Stop crime lessons in schools, youth
clubs and community halls. This will not put an end to crime all together but will go a long
way to educate our youth on how hurtful street crime is to the community, what effect it
has on people and how it ruins your life.
Streets have not been safe for us to play for years. The council have not endeavoured to
make them safe or attempted to build larger or safer playgrounds for kids. There are small
parks however, where kids can play but are usually frequented by suspicious characters. If
elected I will push for them to be marshalled.
The second issue is slabs have come loose on pavements which affect all persons in our
community. Especially our senior citizens, who usually come off worst when tripped on one
of these loose slabs. I have noticed this myself when old ladies trip and fall, hurt their knees
and break their glasses. If elected I will persuade the council to tackle this problem.
Education is my next problem. The lack of efficiency in education has resulted in children
not achieving their potential hence; parents are forced to fork out money for extra tuition
for their kids. I would like to push for right to screen a teacher to make sure they are
professional in the field they claim to be. I for instance was taught maths by a PE teacher
last year. As well as this, I would like homework clubs to provide more support for children
lacking in certain subject other than just homework.
My third point is sports.
The government and council are not providing free sport venues where young potential
champions can thrive. Parents however are spending so much money, time and effort to
create this country's future champions. If elected I would like to ask the government why
they are not providing the right free sport facilities for our youth. Which could in one hand
create champions and in the other stops criminals being born.
I'm not here to introduce new ideas. I'm here to fix what is wrong in our community and
give our youth new opportunities.
