The iconic Schobers Vineyard is contour planted on rolling hills
at the southern end of the famous Clare Valley wine region in
South Australia.
The premium quality dry-grown vineyard of 120 hectares was first
planted in 1977 and was acquired by the Murphy and Phelps in 2009.
Schobers is amongst the top-rated red wine producing vineyards
in Australia.
Its unique red clay over limestone soils consistently produces complex
wines rich in concentration, with outstanding regional character and
cellaring potential.
Fruit sourced from this vineyard has produced numerous multi awardwinning wines over the years, including the prized Jimmy Watson Trophy
in 1995 for the Leasingham Classic Clare Shiraz.
Schobers wines are made by the highly acclaimed winemakers David
O’Leary and Nick Walker, whose winery is adjacent to the vineyard. This
proximity ensures the grapes are harvested from selected blocks when
they are at their optimum ripeness.
Schobers stems from the German word for ‘haystacks’. The families of this
iconic vineyard felt that acquiring such a rare and special property was
like finding a needle in a haystack. This wine is a tribute to Schobers and
the Clare Valley, a soft and satisfying Shiraz crafted to be enjoyed young.
Deep crimson in colour. Plum, mint and berry aromas complemented
by toasty vanillin oak. The plate is full bodied and soft with a long, firm
finish. Enjoy now or cellar up to seven years.
