The 30th anniversary celebration is just around the corner on Saturday, July 30th
from 6-11 pm. Cost is $15 per person or $30 per couple. This will include dinner, a
30th anniversary cup for your drinks and a bag tag. Please RSVP by July 10th to

Even after 8 inches of rain, The Pines hosted the Nebraska Junior State Match Play tournament. 137
participants played on Tuesday, June 21st to qualify for the 32-man field of boys and the ladies competed for 16
spots. Match play competition started at 8 am on Wednesday, June 22nd and ended on Friday, June 24th. Special
thanks to the NGA for running a first class event and to the members for their support and help in making this a great
event for the kids.
Thank you to the members and staff who came out on June 4th and helped clean up the golf course after
the heavy rains and winds on Friday, June 3rd. We had close to 30 people help by cleaning up big tree limbs and
downed trees in the morning and cleaning up the small twigs and debris in the afternoon. Thank you for your help in
getting the course ready for play in a timely manner.

HELP SUPPORT JON AND SCOTT in the Assistant’s raffle by purchasing
a square for $25. When we sell all 100 squares we’ll raffle off over $2,500
in merchandise prizes. Proceeds help defray their expenses to play in the
Section Championship and the Assistant’s Championship.
CONGRATULATIONS to the following Pines members: LUCAS LEINEN
and TYLER SCHAFER. They played in the Nebraska State Junior Match
Play Championships that we hosted here at The Pines. 101 boys tried to
qualify for Match Play but NGA (Nebraska Golf Association) only takes the
top 32 scores from the 18-hole stroke play qualifier. These two brothers
qualified for Match Play. Believe it or not, they then had to play each other
in a match.
LUCAS, TYLER and CODY PITMAN also played on the top five for Omaha
Burke in high school golf. They made it to the Nebraska State High School
Championships as well. Congrats to all of you!
TIP FOR JULY
Keep your head still until you
impact the golf ball. Be careful
not to move your head back and
forth during your swing. If you
move your head you’ll become
a very inconsistent ball striker.
After you hit the ball your head
should come up naturally to allow
a full finish and also to see where
the ball went.
MORE ACES AT THE PINES: ALEX SCHAAKE aced hole #17 on June 23rd
using a #6 iron from 193 yards away. Incidentally, Alex won his match with
this particular ace in the Nebraska State Junior Match Play Championships
here at The Pines. He then won the Championship the very next day. Also
RON HEBREW needed only one shot to finish off hole #14 on June 24th
using a #7 iron from 167 yards away. Congrats ace makers.
HANDICAP COMMITTEE has asked me to pass along a note to all members:
Please post your adjusted score in a timely manner (within 24 hours) whether
it be on the handicap computer or online. There may be days we ask you to
turn your scorecard into the pro shop for the handicap committee to check.
Please be sure your first and last names are on the cards. The motto is:

EVENT CALENDAR: CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS on Saturday, July 16th and
Sunday, July 17th; COUPLES FUN NIGHT on Friday, July 22nd (American
theme and no green fees for guests) and the SAND VALLEY GOLF CLASSIC
(men’s member guest) on Friday, August 5th and Saturday, August 6th.
DIVISIONS IN EVENTS: FYI we have to have a minimum of five teams (five
individuals if the competition is an individual competition) to have a division of
their own. Please contact your pro shop staff before play if you would like to
know if we have enough teams for a separate division.

SCHNABEL (yellow tee flight). SINGLE MATCH PLAY winners are LISA
MAYER (ladies flight), RON HEBREW (championship flight), CHARLIE
WURTZ (first flight), PAUL NUGENT (second flight) and STEVE SISSON
(third flight). COUPLES DIVORCE OPEN winning couples were BRUCE &
DI KNAACK (championship flight), GENE & KERRI HARRIS (first flight) and
GREGG & DIANA NIELSEN (second flight). NEBRASKA STATE JUNIOR
MATCH PLAY WINNERS at THE PINES were MEGAN WHITTAKER from
Elkhorn and ALEX SCHAAKE from Omaha. Congratulations to all of you
event winners!
