Excellent opportunity for a qualified candidate to join Southwest Transplant Alliance (STA), located in
Dallas TX. STA is one of the largest organ procurement organizations in the U.S. Affiliated with eleven
hospital transplant programs within our service area, that perform organ transplant, STA works with
these partners along with the staffs of 280 hospitals in 96 Texas counties.
STA serves Abilene, Beaumont, Bryan/College Station, Corpus Christi, Dallas, El Paso, Galveston,
Longview, Midland/Odessa, Sherman/Denison, Temple, Texarkana, Tyler, Victoria, and Wichita Falls,
with a service population of 9.6 million. As an organization, we work diligently to provide the most

GENERAL STATEMENT (Summary of Duties and Responsibilities):
Responsibility for day-to-day activities related to recovering organs for transplant, including but not
limited to potential donor referrals, donor evaluation, authorization process, and comprehensive donor
management. Activities include, but are not limited to, being knowledgeable of individual hospital
policies related to the donation of all anatomical gifts; able to identify key personnel who are capable of
improving and maintaining a hospital's level of participation in facilitating potential organ and tissue
donors; and performing activities related to the initial and surgical recovery elements of the donation
process. Advancing level responsibilities include facilitating donor management strategies on behalf of
Southwest Transplant Alliance, advanced donor management strategies and invasive procedures. The
position will also facilitate the general activities required throughout the donor recovery period under
the direction of the medical director, clinical management team, and the lead recovery surgeon present
in the operating room.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Associates degree in Nursing or biological science or related experience required. Bachelor's degree
preferred. Licensed as a registered nurse or a physician’s assistant, or applicable experience and
related training preferred.
2. Minimum of three years as an Organ Recovery Coordinator or equivalent experience.
3. Certification as a Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator through ABTC.
4. Must obtain BLS and ACLS certification within one year of employment.
5. Excellent communication skills required. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with all
levels of personnel and to represent the organization publicly.
6. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team required.
7. Ability to cope with high levels of stress and able to handle a heavy workload.
8. Ability to travel in light and commercial aircraft, or drive his/her personal auto in order to meet all
job duties and responsibilities.
9. Expert knowledge of OPO standards & OPTN policy related to OPO responsibilities and organ
allocation.
10. Must be able to simultaneously execute upon multiple complex processes, provide accurate
documentation, and prioritize tasks to optimize workflow in order to ensure compliance with
established policies and timelines.
11. Must be able to work a variable schedule that includes the following shifts: Monday – Friday, 0830
to 1700 (“8-hour shift”); Monday – Friday, 1700 to 0830 (“16-hour shift”); Saturday and Sunday,
0830 to 0830 (“24-hour shift”).
a. All shifts are worked in the Dallas office.
b. Incumbents will work the 8-hour shift on a daily basis, except as provided below
c. Incumbents should expect to work a minimum of five (total) 16-hour and 24-hour shifts per
month.
d. Incumbents are not required to work an 8-hour shift on the day a 16-hour shift begins or
ends, but may be asked to attend meetings before or after a 16-hour shift.
e. Incumbents are permitted to miss an 8-hour shift in the week before or after working a 24hour shift.
f. Additional “on call” shifts may be scheduled to cover the Dallas ORC schedule as needed.
12. Incumbents are required to work onsite performing donor management as the primary coordinator
on at least one donor per month.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Acts in a supervisory role to assigned team members, including:
a. Root cause analysis and corrective action plans related to department functions.
b. Conduct employee appraisal, performance improvement plans, and corrective action plans
under the direction of the Manager of Clinical Services.
c. Approve employee expense reports in accordance with STA guidelines and policy.
2. Performs SOC duties during assigned shifts.
3. Maintains skills as an ORC by performing onsite donor management during at least one shift
monthly and as needed, according to donor activity.
4. Maintains regular office hours in addition to call responsibilities.
5. Perform or oversee and provide clear direction to others related to all expected duties of an ORC I,
ORC II, ORC III, and ORC IV.
6. Actively monitors referral and case activity, providing input for optimal strategies.
7. Participates in donor case review.
8. Participates in team huddles.
9. Responsible for critical communications related to donor activity (e.g. infectious disease reporting,
positive culture reporting, response to potential disease transmission report, etc.) as needed.
10. Reviews information documented in case charts to verify accuracy and completeness of
documentation.
11. Ensures proper documentation of training.
12. Ensures adequate staffing.
13. Oversees activities related to potential donor referrals and dispatches staff onsite for completion of
consult, approach, various clinical activities, etc.
14. Assists in development of continuing education and training materials, programs and curriculum
related to clinical functions.
15. Oversees coordination and execution of research initiatives and Quality Improvement initiatives
(PDSA) approved by STA leadership under the direction of Clinical Managers and Director.
16. Completes STA Leadership Development Training.
17. Works with AOC, COO, and CEO for complex issues, especially those with potential for significant
financial, regulatory, or legal impact to the organization.
