Our annual Square 1 Art Fundraiser is in the works! .
All families received their personalized Square 1 Art kit that included 20 LARGE STICKERS with your child’s
artwork.
Now you can order Ornaments, travel mugs, coasters and more... Key chains, mouse pads, simply too
good to ignore! We always need gifts for family and friends. Not to mention great keepsakes where
memories never end!
And because the kids and Carlos finished so ahead of schedule, and if all goes well (which it usually
does), we will have our Square 1 Art orders before Thanksgiving.
Send your orders in as soon as they are ready!
Library Notes From Barbara
We have a wonderful collection of books, and many of our students really use the library well.
I want to make sure that everyone knows about some of the electronic resources that are available.
Our Library Home Page is at: to http://library.nycenet.edu
You’ll see Central Park East II Elementary near the top of the right column.
There are several sites that present the illustrations and text from books so that children can read online.
Books: Read-Alouds is the second section on the left. If you have a Public Library card, you can also use
the site from ON-LION for Kids from the NY Public Library.
•

•
•
Aesop’s Fables – a few readings of some favorite fables
BookPals - actors read the books aloud
Toon Book Read-Alouds (Multi-language) TOON books are high quality comics designed for
children ages 4 and up.
OneMoreStory (password needed) Several shelves of old and new favorites
Of course there are many other sites as well. Please let me know which sites you find useful or if you
have other sites that you think I should add to the list.
Book Borrowing for 1st through 5th graders:
Just so you know, though exceptions are made, our policy is that children can take out one book at a
time and need to return or renew the book in a week. I am now in the library on Wednesdays and
Thursdays. It is best that books are returned the day before their scheduled class so they can be
checked in before the class comes to the library.
The following classes have library on Wednesdays: Andrietta, Claudia/Matt, Cristel/Valerie, Karen and
Alison/Naomi. The following classes have library on Thursdays: Vida, Gina/Len and Rajihah/Lee Ann.
Please help your child remember to return their books on time.
From time to time, I’ll continue to let you know about library resources in CPE II Notes, but also come
and visit the library. Thursday mornings at 8:30 are the best times for parents to visit.
I look forward to working with all of you.
Weekend Family Events by Raven:
To make the CPE 2 Notes a bit more manageable, Raven’s great weekend family fun events have been
moved to the CPE 2 Website. On the cpe2.org home page, look for the link “Raven’s Weekend Events”
below the “Upcoming Events” list or go directly to : http://www.cpe2.org/weekend-events/

Early dismissal days including two family conference days. CPE II has received permission from the
NYCDOE to add an additional 5 early dismissal days to the school year. These five early dismissal days
will be used for Professional Development. Although CPE II teachers spend every Monday afternoon
until 5:30 engaging in Professional Development, we have found that this is not enough. In striving to do
our best for your children, these additional times are important and we appreciate parent support for
this time. It also has given us the possibility to move up mid-year reports and conferences to February,
to better support our students.
