PREAMBLE
WethestudentsoftheLouisianaStateUniversityHealthSchoolofNursing,inorderto
maintainschoolstandards,toencouragestudent‐facultycoordination,andtopromote
individualresponsibilityandcooperationbetweenmembersofthestudentbody,do
organizeasthestudentgovernmentassociationunderthenameoftheLouisianaState
UniversityHealthSchoolofNursingStudentGovernmentAssociationandestablishthis
constitution.
LouisianaStateUniversityHealthSchoolofNursingStudentGovernmentAssociation
hasbeenentrustedwiththeresponsibilityforplanning,implementing,andevaluating
anorganizationandprogramforachievingitspurposes,inrelationtostudentliving,
social,andotherco‐curricularactivities.
TheStudentsenteringLouisianaStateUniversityHealthSchoolofNursingrecognize
andaccepttheobligationsofbelongingtoastudentgovernmentassociation.The
regulations,whichLouisianaStateUniversityHealthSchoolofNursingStudent
GovernmentAssociationhasestablished,representtherecognizedethicalstandards
governingstudentlife.

aswellasanyotherExecutiveBoardmeetingsunlessthereisascheduleconflict
withlectureorclinical.Noticeofabsenceshallbecommunicatedtothepresidentno
laterthan24hourspriortothemeeting.
3. AllSGAExecutiveBoardmembersareexpectedtoattendandhelpwithanySGA
sponsoredeventandthereforeareexemptfrompayingfortheevent.TheSGAshall
sponsoroneticketforeachExecutiveBoardmember.EachExecutiveBoardmember
shallpayforanyadditionalticketsseparately.
4. TheSGAExecutiveBoardshallvoteattheendofeachsemesterfortheSGA
outstandinggraduateaward.TheSGAExecutiveBoardmayalsovotetoaward
multipleSGAExecutiveBoardmemberswiththeSGAOutstandingGraduateAward.
TheSGAOutstandingGraduateAwardRecipient(s)willreceiveamonetaryawardof
$50.00fromtheSGAaccount,aswellasaSGAOutstandingGraduateAwardplaque.
5. TheSGAExecutiveBoardshallawardamonetarytothewinningclassduringSpirit
Weekinthefallsemester.
6. TheSGAProgramsandActivitiesCommitteeshallvoteonallvenues,bands,ticket
prices,andanyotherexpensesforallevents.Finaldecisionswillbemadeby
majorityvote.Intheeventofatie,theSGAExecutivePresidentshallbethetie‐
breakingvote.
ARTICLEVI–NOMINATIONS,ELECTIONS,RECALLVACANCIES
Section1–NominationsofSON‐SGA‐LSUHealthOfficers
TheSGAExecutiveofficerswillbenominatedfromthegeneralmembershipoftheSGA
atleasttwoweekspriortothespringandfallgeneralelection.Thelistofnomineeswill
beturnedintothePresidentoftheSGA.Anyonewhowishestorunforanopenposition
mustbepresentatthelastSGAgeneralbodymeetingofthesemester.Exceptionsareto
bemadeforstudentswhohaveclassorclinicalconflicts.ThePresidentshallbe
responsiblefordistributingthelistandcandidatestatementstotheentireLSU‐Health
SONundergraduatestudentbody.Thelistshallbepostedforatleast1weekbeforethe
onlineelection.
Electionsshallbeheldoneweekafterthecloseofnominations,tobedeterminedbythe
ExecutiveCouncilofSGA.
TheExecutivePresidentshallberesponsibleforsubmittingalistofcandidatesandtheir
statements,nolaterthanoneweekafterthecloseofnominationssothattheITdirector
cangenerateanonlinesurvey.Thesurveyshallstayactiveforoneweek.
Section2–ElectionofSON‐SGA‐LSUHealthExecutiveOfficers
Electionsshallbemadebyonlinesurveytobeopenforoneweek.Thecandidate
receivingthemostvoteswillbeconsideredelected.Thenamesofthewinnersforall
officesshallbepostedviaLSUemail,andtheLSUHealthSONwebpageshallbe
updatedattheendofeachsemester.Theofficialresultsshallbeavailablefor
inspectionbyanystudentforoneweekfollowingelectionsfromMarcoSosa.
TransitionmeetingistobeheldattheendofthesemesterasspecifiedbytheSGA
ExecutiveCouncil.
Onceelected,SGAExecutiveofficerswillholdtheirpositionforoneyear.Eachofficer
mayrunforanotheropenpositionbeforetheendofthetermofhisorhercurrent
position,buteachofficermayholdonlyonepositionatatime.Attheendofeachone‐
yearterm,eachpositionwillbeopenfornominationsfromanymemberofthestudent
body.NominationsfortheofficeofSGAExecutivePresidentmayonlyconsistof
studentswhopreviouslyservedontheSGAExecutiveCouncil.
Incompleteballotsshallbecountedforthecandidatesintheoffices(s)forwhichthey
arecast.
Section3–Nominations&ElectionofClassOfficers
Nominationsforclassofficerswillbemadebyclassmembers.Nominationswillbe
acceptedbytheclasspresidentbeginningtwoweekspriortotheclasselection.
NominationsandelectionfortheincomingBSNSophomoreclassandtheincoming
CAREclasswillbeconductedbytheSGAExecutiveCouncil.
Electionforclassofficersintheincomingsophomoreclassshouldbeheldbythefirst
weekofSeptemberforfallentrantsandthefirstweekofFebruaryforspringentrants.
Onceelected,classofficerswillholdtheirpositionforoneyear.Eachofficermayrunfor
anotheropenpositionbeforetheendofthetermofhisorhercurrentposition,buteach
officermayholdonlyonepositionatatime.Attheendofeachone‐yearterm,each
positionwillbeopenfornominationsofanyclassmember.Aftertheinitialelectionof
theSophomoreIclass,theofficeofPresidentmayonlybefilledbyclassmemberswho
havepreviouslyservedasanofficer.
Section4‐Recall
AnyofficerofSON‐SGA‐LSUHealthmayberecalledfromofficeuponpetitionforrecall.
Thepetition,signedbyatleastonefourthofthestudentbody,willbereviewedbya
committeeselectedbytheSGAExecutiveCouncil.Theselectionofthiscommitteewill
takeplaceatthetimethepetitionispresentedtotheSGAExecutiveCouncil.The
purposeofthiscommitteewillbetodeterminethevalidityofthepetition.With
approvaloftheRecallCommitteeandtwo‐thirdsvoteofthestudents,recallmaybe
effective.Forrecallofclassofficers,thesameprocedureistobefollowedwithatwo‐
thirdsvotefromtheclass.
PROTOCOL
1. AftertheSGAExecutiveCouncilispresentedwithapetitionforrecallrepresenting
atleastonefourthofthestudentbody,theprocessforselectionoftheRecall
Committeewillbegin,andthepersoninvolvedinrecallwillbenotified.TheRecall
Committeewillbechosenbylot.Itwillbecomposedoftwomembersfromeach
class,e.g.twoBSSophomores,twoBSJuniors,twoBSSeniors,andtwoGraduate
students,exclusiveofclassofficersandSGAExecutiveCouncilmembers.
2. BothachairpersonandsecretarywillbeselectedbyandfrommembersoftheRecall
Committee.
3. TheRecallCommitteeshouldmeetwithinoneweekofselection.

TheSGAPresidentwillinformbothpartiesoftherecallcommitteedecision.
Atotalofnotmorethantwoweeks,fromtimeofcommitteeselectiontoreportof
committeedecision,shouldbeallowedtoelapse.
Ifthedecisionoftherecallcommitteewasoneofavalidpetition,asecretballotof
thestudentbodyshouldbeinitiatedbytheSGAExecutiveCouncilwithinoneweek
ofreceivingthedecision.
Atwothirdsvoteofthestudentswillmakerecalleffective.

Section5‐Vacancies
Iftheofficeofpresidentisvacated,thefirstvice‐presidentwillfilltheposition.Ifany
otherofficeorfacultyadvisorspositionisvacatedwithinfourmonthsofthenext
regularSGAelections,thatpositionwillbefilledbyvoteoftheExecutiveCouncil.
VacanciesoccurringearlierthanthefourthmonthpriortothenextregularSGA
electionswillbefilledbyvoteofthestudentbodyinaspecialelection.
ARTICLEVII‐QUALIFICATIONS
ThecandidatesforSGAExecutiveCounciland/orclassofficershallbefulltimestudents
withatleasta"C"average,i.e.anyclassofficerorSGAofficermustbeamemberofgood
standingatLSUHealthSON,andmayonlyrunforthepositionofSGAExecutive
PresidentifyouarecurrentlyservingasanofficerontheSGAExecutiveCouncil.Inthe
eventthatthecandidatefortheofficeofpresidentdoesnotmeetthequalificationsof
“currentlyservingontheSGAExecutiveBoard”,thePresident‐Electcandidatemust
meettheminimumqualificationsofcurrentlyservingasaclassofficerandbeingingood
academicstanding.Studentswhoareunsuccessfulinanycoursemaynotholdanoffice
fortheupcomingsemesterwhilethatcourseisbeingrepeated.Thisincludesstudents
whodropacourseandthosewhodonotachievea“C”orbetterinanycourse.TheSON
andtheSGAExecutiveCouncilsupportsparticipationinextracurricularactivities,but
scholasticachievementandprogressiontakesprecedent.IfacurrentSGAExecutive
Boardmemberisunsuccessfulattheendofthesemester,andbeforetheendoftheir
currentterm,theExecutiveBoardshallacceptnominations,conductinterviews,and
electpositionsbymajorityvote.Inthecaseofatie,theSGAExecutivePresidentshallbe
thetie‐breakingvote.

ParliamentaryProcedure,accordingtoRobert’sRulesofOrder,istobefollowedinall
LSU‐HealthSONSGAmeetingswithintheframeworkofLSU‐HealthSONSGAexcept
wheninconflictwiththisconstitution.Theparliamentarianshallhavethe
responsibilityofenforcingthisarticle.
ARTICLEXI‐MEETINGS
Section1–ExecutiveCouncilMeetings
Monthlymeetingswillbeheldduringthefallandspringsemester.Itisthedutyofeach
membertoattendeachmeeting,providedadvancenoticeisgiven.Ifamemberisunable
toattend,itisthemembers'dutytoinformthepresidentatleast24hourspriortothe
meeting.Absenceattwoconsecutivemeetingswithoutadvancenoticewillwarrant
alertingthefacultyadvisorforthatprogramwhointurnwillwarnthememberofhisor
herstandingandalertthememberthatanyadditionalabsencewillresultinthecouncil
askingthememberresponsibletoresignfromhisorherposition.
TheExecutiveCouncilmayholdinformalsummerandwintermeetingsasneeded.
ARTICLEXII–AMENDMENTS
Amember‐at‐largedesiringachangemaysubmitaproposedamendmentsignedbyat
leasttwenty‐five(25)membersoftheSON‐SGA‐LSUHealthtotheExecutiveCouncil.
After
theproposedamendmentisreviewedbytheSGAExecutiveCouncil,itwillbepostedfor
atleasttwoweeks.Aftertwoweeks,theproposedamendmentwillbevotedonatthe
nextgeneralSGAmeetingorshallbesubmittedforonlinevotewhichshallbemade
availabletoallstudentsofLSUHealthSON.Atwo‐thirdsvoteofallSGAmembersvoting
isrequiredforitadoption.
AmendmentsproposedbyanExecutiveCouncilCommitteemustbeapprovedbythe
ExecutiveCouncilandpostedforoneweekpriortothenextgeneralSGAmeetingor
onlinesurveyvote.Atthenextgeneralmeetingorviaonlinesurveyvoting,atwo‐thirds
voteofallSGAmembersvotingisrequiredforpassageoftheamendmentandits
adoption.
