Star Wars Day
Foundation Visit to Axe Valley
On May 4th, Manor Court celebrated Star Wars day
with a special visit from Darth Vader, Stormtroopers
and Chewbacca
as we hosted the
Dorset Troopers,
a Star Wars reenactment
group. The
Dorset troopers
gave a talk about
all things Star
Wars and pupils
were encouraged
to dress up as
their
favourite
characters.

boarded the
bus to Axe
Valley Wildlife
Park. We
looked at
several
animals
including a beautiful white peacock and wallaby with a
baby in its pouch. In the Education Centre each class
was treated to a handling session and had the
opportunity to touch a snake, hold a tarantula and learn
some interesting facts. To everyone’s delight, Archie
the Armadillo made a special appearance at the end.
Our Foundation Children behaved beautifully throughout
the day and were a credit to the school.

The day also
had a serious
side to
highlight the
fund-raising
efforts that
the Dorset
Troopers
carry out.
They raise
money for Julia’s House Hospice and were here to talk
about the work they do for charity. Hannah Robinson of
Julia’s House also came to give a talk to pupils about the
work that the charity is involved with.
The total amount of £272.21 was raised on the day and
this money will all go towards the work of Julia’s House.
News from the Early Years Centre
We are delighted to welcome Laura Hamilton to the
team. Laura is extremely experienced and comes to us
from a nursery in the local area where she was a deputy
supervisor. Laura has just finished her BA Hons degree
to back up all of her experience. We hope that you will
welcome Laura not only into the role but into the school
environment.

Year 5 Trip to Wessex Water
Year 3 Trip to Axe Valley
By Ruben Rocher (Badgers Class)
Year 3 made a visit
to Axe Valley
Wildlife Park as part
of their Creepy
Crawlies topic. They
had a fantastic time
coming up close and
personal with a
cockroach, giant
millipede, stick
insects and a Chilean
Rose Spider. They
enjoyed walking
around the park,
looking at all the
different animals
and birds. They especially enjoyed the play-park at the
end!. Thank you so much to the parent helpers who
make visits like this possible and for giving up their
time.
“On Tuesday 17th May 2016 Year 5 visited Wessex
Water works in Cannington to learn more about our topic
on habitats and life cycles. It took one hour to get
there.
Once we got on the grass we got in our groups, there
were three groups red, blue and green. I was in red
group. Next Sue guided one group at a time to get their
wellies on. After that we went to the reservoir. When
we got there
me and Jack
spotted a
wing come out
of the water,
after that we
saw
Kingfishers
flying. Then
we went to
the mute
swans and
their cygnets, on Monday there were nine cygnets but
on Tuesday there were eight. Five minutes later we
went to the nest it looked like a beacon. As we went to
the trees we talked about the rabbit holes and badger
holes and how badgers are clean and foxes are really
dirty. It was like a murder scene, there was a swan leg
plus we saw a broken egg and rabbit fur.
When we got back to the grass we spotted a scared
mouse run past the toilets. Then we went to the river
that comes all the way from Wales to Somerset and
maybe further. We played poo chocks and we measured
the river, it was quite low then but sometimes it can be
really high”

SATS week From a Year 6
Perspective
“From Monday, 9th May until Thursday, 12th May Year 6
took their SATs. They
had breakfast ready in the
hall at 8.30 am to help
them prepare for the
tests. The breakfast
supplied a calm and
relaxing atmosphere.
The majority of the Year
6 pupils were relatively
nervous but once everyone
had started it wasn't too
bad.
On Monday they sat the
reading test then on Tuesday they had to complete the
punctuation and
grammar test as well as
the spelling test. On
Wednesday they did
their arithmatic paper
as well as the first of
their maths reasoning
papers. On Thursday
they had their last but
not least paper which
was their other
reasoning paper.
I would like to thank
Mrs Trott for supplying the breakfast and the FMCA
for our CGP revision guides that they puchased for
every Year 6 pupil. I would also like to thank Mrs Jones
and all the other other office staff for keeping things
in order and keeping the SATs in a safe place and last
but not least the Year 6 teachers and all the other
teachers and LSAs who helped, we couldn't have done it
without you! Results are published in July ….”

Choir to the Opera
On the 21st of April Manor Court went to Holyrood to
sing an opera. In order to attend this event we went to
two
workshops.
We got to
meet some
real opera
singers, they
were amazing!
We also got
to work with
Combe St
Nicholas
school. We
were told
that we could
dress up as farmers for the show. We have put lots of
effort into this concert and have worked really well
together. We performed brilliantly and the audience
was overwhelmed. The other singers were happy with
our performance too. We behaved well and had a great
time!

Bikeability
A group of 12 children took part in a “Bikeability” course
in April. Under the guidance of the 2 Road Safety
Instructors assisted by Mrs Cleal and Mrs Trott the
children practised in the playground first before going
on to the roads around the school.
The children and adults battled all weathers over the 2
day course and each child who took part received a
certificate and cycle safety pack..
The next Bikeability will be held in the Autumn term.
Keeping busy at Homework Club!
The new Mathletics App is
proving to be a popular
activity. If your child is
interested in coming along,
years 3-6, please contact
the office for more
details.
