Aztec Self-Assessment Guidelines
You will be creating and taking your own test that you have created on the Aztec Empire. You should
have the following research to help you with creating your test:
a. Your Aztec packet research which includes the following
1. Comparing and Contrasting Mesoamerican Civilizations ---we will use only questions 1 and
2 for your self-assessment.
2. Page 175-177 textbook research notes/study cards/graphic organizer(whichever format
you chose to do your notes)
3. Page 178-179 Study Questions
b. Your Aztec video research
c. Your mrdonn.org internet research---focusing on how the Hernan Cortez was able to defeat
the Aztecs.
d. All questions you create are in question format only. No true/ false, yes or no questions or
multiple choice, matching. Dates or time periods can be used only one time as an answer.

Your test will be taken over a period of two days. Parts OneFour will be tested on one day and the following day Part Five
will be tested. Test dates : Parts 1-4 January 10---Part 5 January
11---students may test earlier if they are prepared to do so.
Your test questions and answers must be on separate sheets. Do
not put them together on the same page.
Guidelines
Part one: Mesoamerica---use your Comparing and Contrasting Mesoamerica Civilization research for
this section.

You must identify 3 civilizations found in Mesoamerica and then describe how they are similar
(alike) and how they are different.
Part Two---Geography of the Aztec Empire
You will need 5 questions dealing with the geography of the empire



You must identify where the Aztec Empire was located
What the land was like where they settled
4 examples of natural resources found there
Part three---Page 175-177 notes
You will need a total of 10 questions




You must identify who the Olmec were and how they are related to the Aztecs
You must identify what the Aztec economy depended on to make a living
Give3 examples of different jobs they had other than farming
Define polytheism
Part three continued:

You will choose any six other facts to use as questions from your notes from pages 175-177
that I did not use
Part Four---Aztec Packet Questions---pages 178-179


You will need to use 7 facts you learned to create questions from this section
Explain in detail how the Aztecs were able to build such a huge empire.
Part Five---The Defeat of the Aztecs
You will use your textbook, video and internet research for this part of your test to answer in
paragraph format related to who defeated the Aztecs and how they were able to do so.
Use all of your research from the textbook, video and internet research to assist you with this.
Must include:




The country that sent Hernan Cortez to conquer them
Details about Cortez and what he was searching for
Who the ruler of the Aztecs was at that time
Why they were able to defeat the Aztecs
