Alexandria, Va. — The "good
ole summer time" is just about
over, and to New York residents and other residents of the
Atlantic and Gulf coast states,
the American Red Cross, and
the U. S. Weather Bureau, this
means hurricane season.
v C. Miltor Jackson, director of
Red Cross Disaster Services for
a 16-state area including New
York, said today his organization, along with the U.S. Weather Bureau, Civil Defense Units,
and related agencies will be on
constant ..lert :or the next three
months.
Hurricanes
and
tropical
storms inc:ea;n in number, and
usually m intensity, as the summer goes along, Jackson stated.

evacuation of families from danger areas through the combined

"While
-ne knows for certain what wilt happen this sum
mer," Jackson commented, "we
do know from experience
what is likely to happen, and
t every resident of the vulnerable
area shouk take precautionary
steps to minim-ze the danger to
life and propei ty."

with these 10 safety tips which
can save lives and protect property with a minimum of discomfort to the families concerned:
1. Watch your newspaper and
television for official weather
bureau reports and listen for
them on radio. A battery oper-j
ated radio set is a wise pre-'

2. Store garbage cans, garden

such objects in a safe place.
