Violence Free Campus
(Threat Assessment) Policy
Purpose
To maintain a safe and secure campus environment so that students,
faculty, staff and visitors are able to pursue their education, work and
other activities in a safe, non-threatening environment. The Violence
Free Campus policy provides direction to the campus community for
reporting of incidents and their proper investigation, follow-up and
resolution.
Reporting
LMU community members should report campus emergencies and
issues of concern to the Department of Public Safety at 310-338-2893
or dial 222 (for internal university phones). In addition, the Department
of Public Safety maintains an email address for anonymous reporting
of suspicious behavior at [email protected].
Summary of Investigative Procedure
To the best of our ability, any threat assessment will consist of interviews
of reporting parties, witnesses and other knowledgeable sources that can
shed light on the factual circumstances of the incident. If the assessment
verifies a serious or ongoing threat to the campus, the Chief of Public
Safety or designee may initiate actions to protect the campus or persons
affiliated with the campus. The Chief of Public Safety or designee may
also determine that no immediate threat exists but may decide to refer
student to the Office of Judicial Affairs for other behavioral issues.
