WELCOME TO CHRIST THE KING
CtK exists to live, speak, and serve as the very presence of Jesus Christ in Downtown Raleigh.
By God’s grace, we increasingly:
Delight in Jesus in worship,
Discover Jesus in community,
Display Jesus’ Kingdom in our lives,
to the end of making disciples
and multiplying Churches,
starting in downtown Raleigh
Visiting a church can be an intimidating experience. We are glad that you are here and we hope to
remove as much of that awkwardness as we can from your visit to CtK.
Our worship service usually lasts about 90 minutes. This worship guide will help you navigate the
service. Unless otherwise noted, we stand for the songs and sit at other times.
Here are a few options for your children. Childcare is provided during the service for children up to
three. Children ages three through nine are given the choice of attending a children’s teaching time
mid-way through the service (dismissal is before the sermon). Your child is welcome to come forward
for communion and will receive a blessing from the leadership if they aren’t members of this or another
church.
What we hope you get out of this service. Our service is designed to be accessible to you, whether
you’ve spent your life in the church or you’ve never been to a church service in your life. During the
service, we will try to help you understand how the ancient story of Jesus can have application to and
meaning in your life today.
To connect with our church further, speak with Geoff Bradford or one of our Elder leaders. They
can direct you towards a Community Group and the membership process. You can also leave your
email at the back table or contact us at [email protected].

REFLECTIONS
“The greatest need of the hour is a revived and joyful Church…Nothing is more important…than that we
should be delivered from a condition which gives other people looking at us, the impression that to be
a Christian means to be unhappy, to be sad, to be morbid, and that the Christian is one who ‘scorns
delights and lives laborious days…Christian people too often seem to be perpetually in the doldrums and
too often give this appearance of unhappiness and lack of freedom and of absence of joy. There is no
question at all but that this is the main reason why large numbers of people have ceased to be interested
in Christianity.”
- D. Martin Lloyd-Jones
“It is well know that Christ consistently used the expression “follower.” He never asks for admirers. ….
His whole life on earth, from beginning to end, was destined solely to have followers and to make having
admirers impossible. Christ came into the world with the purpose of saving, not instructing it.”
- Soren Kierkegaard
CALL TO WORSHIP
(God reveals Himself through His Word and calls us to worship Him)
From Psalm 63
Leader: People: O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you;
my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you,
as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
Leader:
People:
So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary,
beholding your power and glory.
Because your steadfast love is better than life,
my lips will praise you.
So I will bless you as long as I live;
in your name I will lift up my hands.
PRAYER OF ADORATION (so we marvel in Him and His character, asking Him to be with us,)
SONGS OF PRAISE
(and we sing in praise of His worth and works.)
Come, People of the Risen King
Come, people of the Risen King, who delight to bring Him praise;
Come all and tune your hearts to sing to the Morning Star of grace.
From the shifting shadows of the earth we will lift our eyes to Him,
Where steady arms of mercy reach to gather children in.
Chorus
Rejoice, Rejoice! Let every tongue rejoice!
One heart, one voice; O Church of Christ, rejoice!
Come, those whose joy is morning sun, And those weeping through the night;
Come, those who tell of battles won, and those struggling in the fight.
For His perfect love will never change, and His mercies never cease,
But follow us through all our days with the certain hope of peace.
Chorus
Come, young and old from every land—Men and women of the faith;
Come, those with full or empty hands—Find the riches of His grace.
Over all the world, His people sing—Shore to shore we hear them call
The Truth that cries through every age: “Our God is all in all”!
Chorus

Holy, Holy, Holy!
Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee.
Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!
Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
Cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee,
Who wert, and art, and evermore shall be.
Holy, holy, holy! Though the darkness hide thee,
Though the eye of sinful man thy glory may not see,
Only thou art holy; there is none beside thee
Perfect in power, in love, and purity.
Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
All thy works shall praise thy name in earth and sky and sea.
Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!

CALL TO CONFESSION
(He shows us our sinfulness opposed to His holiness,
but He reminds us of His mercy promised to us,)
Leader:
The psalmist testifies: Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will tell what He has done for me. If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. But truly God has listened;
He has given heed to the words of my prayer.
Blessed be God, because He has not rejected my prayer or removed His steadfast love from me.
In the strength of this assurance, let us confess our sins to God.
CONFESSION OF SIN
(so we are able to freely confess our sins.)
Leader:
Father in heaven, we do not live as if you are precious to us.
People:
We do not live as if you are beautiful. How we wish that we lived as if our greatest desires were pleasing and enjoying you.
Leader:
People:
We selfishly use you for the good things you give rather than love you for who you are.
We pursue idols that leave us empty and lost. We fail to love you with our whole heart, soul, and mind. Forgive us, Almighty God, for our idolatry, for our unfaithfulness.
Leader:
People:
Loose our grip on earthly things and help us to receive your love and grasp your beauty.
Deliver us from every evil habit, from everything that dims the
brightness of your grace in us, from everything that prevents us from taking our deepest delight in you. Amen.
silent time of confession
ASSURANCE OF THE GOSPEL
(He assures us of His grace shown to us in Christ,)
From Romans 7
Leader: 4 Now to the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due. 5 And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness, 6 just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one to whom God counts righteousness apart from works:
7 “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven,
and whose sins are covered;
8 blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not count his sin.”
SONGS OF THANKSGIVING
(so we sing in thanks for the hope we have in Jesus.)
You Who Are Greater Than Our Hearts
Chorus
You who are greater than our hearts,
Come make your faithful mercies known,
The mind of Christ to us impart
Your constant mind in us be shown
O let us by your cross abide,
You, only you, resolved to know
The Lamb for sinners crucified,
A world to save from endless woe
(Repeat Chorus)
Take us into your people’s rest,
And we from our own works shall cease
With your meek Spirit arm our breast,
And keep our minds in perfect peace
(Repeat Chorus)
Jesus, for this we calmly wait,
O let our eyes behold you near
Hurry to make our heaven complete,
Appear, our glorious God, appear!
(Repeat Chorus)

Words by Wilbur Chapman, Music by Rowland Pritchard
All I Have Is Christ (11am)
I once was lost in darkest night yet thought I knew the way
The sin that promised joy and life had led me to the grave
I had no hope that You would own a rebel to Your will
And if You had not loved me first I would refuse You still
But as I ran my hell-bound race indifferent to the cost
You looked upon my helpless state and led me to the cross
And I beheld God’s love displayed You suffered in my place
You bore the wrath reserved for me now all I know is grace
Chorus:
Hallelujah! All I have is Christ
Hallelujah! Jesus is my life.
Now, Lord, I would be Yours alone and live so all might see
The strength to follow Your commands could never come from me
O Father, use my ransomed life in any way You choose
And let my song forever be my only boast is You
Chorus:
Hallelujah! All I have is Christ
Hallelujah! Jesus is my life. (2x)

CELEBRATION OF BAPTISM (9am)
Marcellus James Best IV, Son of Marc and Emily Best
Invitation and Words of Institution: Geoff Bradford
Minister: People: Through baptism God gave us a gracious sign of love and hope in Christ.
Let us hear again the promises God has made to us in Christ.
Baptism is the sign and seal of God’s promises to this covenant people.
In baptism God promises by grace alone to forgive our sins, to adopt us into the body of Christ, the church, to send the Holy Spirit daily to renew and cleanse us,
and to resurrect us to eternal life.
Minister: People: This promise is made visible in the water of baptism.
Water cleanses, purifies, refreshes, sustains; Jesus Christ is living water.
Minister: People: Through baptism Christ calls us to new obedience: to love and trust God completely, to forsake the evil of the world, and to live a new and holy life.
Yet when we fall into sin, we must not despair of God’s mercy or continue in sin, for baptism is the sign and seal of God’s eternal covenant of grace with us.
Parents Vows
1. Do you acknowledge your child’s need of the
cleansing blood of Jesus Christ,
and the renewing grace of the Holy Spirit?
2. Do you claim God’s covenant promises on his
behalf, and do you look in faith to the Lord Jesus
Christ for his salvation, as you do for your own?
3. Do you now unreservedly dedicate your child to
God, and promise, in humble reliance upon divine
grace, that you will endeavor to set before him a
godly example, that you will pray with and for him,
that you will teach him the doctrines of our holy
religion, and that you will strive, by all the means of
God’s appointment, to bring him up in the nurture
and admonition of the Lord?

Jesus Loves You
Jesus loves you this I know
For the Bible tells us so
Little ones to Him belong
They are weak, but He is strong
Yes, Jesus loves you (x3)
The Bible tells us so.
Congregation’s Vows
Minister: Our God made a covenant with Abraham,
the father of all who believe, saying, “I will establish
my covenant as an everlasting covenant
between me and you and your descendants after
you for the generations to come, to be your God and
the God of your descendants after you.”
People: Peter preached the Gospel to the church
saying, “the promise is for you and your
children.”
Minister: Do you, the members of this congregation,
receive this child into this church as those whom
God has called his own according to the Covenant?
And do you now promise to surround him with
Christian love to pray for him and to set an example
of genuine faith and virtue?
People: We do, for whoever welcomes this child
in Christ’s name welcomes Him. And whoever
welcomes Christ, welcomes the one who sent
Him.
GOSPEL HOSPITALITY
(We extend the welcome and grace of Jesus to each other.)
Leader: People: The peace of Christ be with you all.
And also with you.
SCRIPTURE READING
Children’s Teaching Time
Parents - please lead your
children to the back entrance.
The teachers will escort them
across the street.
(We listen to His Word...)
Mark 14:1-11
It was now two days before the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread.
And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to arrest him by stealth
and kill him, 2 for they said, “Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar from
the people.” 3 And while he was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as
he was reclining at table, a woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment of
pure nard, very costly, and she broke the flask and poured it over his head. 4
There were some who said to themselves indignantly, “Why was the ointment
wasted like that? 5 For this ointment could have been sold for more than three
hundred denarii and given to the poor.” And they scolded her. 6 But Jesus
said, “Leave her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a beautiful thing
to me. 7 For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you want, you
can do good for them. But you will not always have me. 8 She has done what
she could; she has anointed my body beforehand for burial. 9 And truly, I say
to you, wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has
done will be told in memory of her.”
10 Then Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve, went to the chief priests
in order to betray him to them. 11 And when they heard it, they were glad and
promised to give him money. And he sought an opportunity to betray him.
THE WORD
(and hear His good news proclaimed.)
Sermon Title: The Next To Last Supper
Preacher:
Geoff Bradford
Response:
Reader: The Word of the Lord
People: Thanks be to God!
THE LORD’S SUPPER
(God confirms His promises to strenghten and sustain us as we
await the return of His Son.)
The Lord’s Supper, which is often called Communion or the Eucharist, is celebrated every Sunday at
CtK. The Lord’s Supper is the family meal of Christians. Christ the King Presbyterian Church welcomes
all committed followers of Jesus Christ to partake of this sacrament. If you have forsaken your sin
and trusted in Jesus Christ for salvation, are a baptized member of a congregation that proclaims the
gospel, and seek strength to live more faithfully for Christ, we invite you to partake in the Lord’s Supper
with us. If you are not a Christian or are not prepared to share in this meal, we encourage you to spend
this time in prayer, using one of the prayers listed below. We hope this time is helpful to you as you
consider your relationship with Jesus Christ and with His people, the Church.
Great Prayer of Thanksgiving
Minister: People: Minister: People: Minister: People: The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts!
We lift them up unto the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give Him thanks and praise.
The Communion
We will come forward to receive
communion. Please eat the bread as
you receive it; you can drink the cup
when you recieve it or take it back to
your seat. Please use this time to pray
for the Lord’s return, to meditate silently
on one of the printed prayer, or to sing
along with our communion hymn.
Note for cups:
clear cup-wine, tinted cup-juice
Words of Institution
Minister: People:
With these words our Lord commands all believers to eat this broken bread and to drink this cup in true faith and in the confident hope of his return in glory.
In this supper, God declares to us that our sins have been completely forgiven through the one sacrifice of Jesus Christ, which He Himself finished on the cross once and for all. He also declares to us that the Holy Spirit grafts us into Christ, who with His very body is now in heaven at the right hand of the Father, where He wants us to worship Him.
Minister:
People: Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good!
Blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!
Leader: People: Great is the mystery of our Faith
Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.
Leader: People: Praise to you, Lord Jesus
Dying, you destroyed our death; Rising, you restored our life.
Lord Jesus, come in glory.
Poor Sinner, Dejected With Fear
Poor sinner, dejected with fear,
Unbosom thy mind to the Lamb;
No wrath on His brow He does wear,
Nor will He poor mourners condemn;
His arm of omnipotent grace
Is able and willing to save;
A sweet and a permanent peace
He’ll freely and faithfully give.
Come just as thou art, with thy woe,
Fall down at the feet of the Lamb;
He will not, He cannot say, “Go”,
But surely will take out thy stain
A fountain is opened for sin,
And thousands its virtues have proved
He’ll take thee, and plunge thee therein,
And wash thee from filth in His blood.
The soul that on Jesus relies,
He’ll never, no never deceive;
He freely and faithfully gives
More blessings than we can conceive;
Yea, down to old age He will keep,
Nor will He forsake us at last;
He knows and is known by His sheep;
They’re His, and He will hold them fast.

DOXOLOGY
(We thank Him for His provision...)
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heav’nly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost;
Amen
PRAYERS FOR
COMMUNION
Prayer for Those
Searching for Truth
Lord Jesus, you claim to be the way, the truth,
and the life. Grant that I might be undaunted by
the cost of following you as I consider the reasons
for doing so. If what you claim is true, please
guide me, teach me, and open to me the reality
of who you are. Give me an understanding of you
that is coherent, convincing, and that leads to the
life that you promise. Amen.
Prayer of Belief
Lord Jesus, I admit that I am weaker and more
sinful than I ever before believed, but through you
I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared
hope. I thank you for paying my debt, bearing my
punishment on the cross, and offering forgiveness
and new life. Knowing that you have been raised
from the dead, I turn from my sins and receive you
as Savior and Lord. Amen.
Prayer of Commitment
Lord Jesus, you have called us to follow you in
baptism and in a life of committed discipleship in
your church. Grant that I may take the necessary
steps to be one with your people, and live in the
fullness of your Spirit. Amen.
SONG OF SENDING | OFFERING
(and respond by cheerfully giving to Him and singing in praise.)
We Are Not Overcome
Flesh will fail, bones will break;
Thieves will steal; The earth will shake.
Night will fall, the light will fade,
The Lord will give and take away
Refrain
Because of His great love, We are not overcome
Because of His great love, We are not overcome
Put no trust in the earth;
in the sod, you stand upon
Flowers fade into dust;
The Lord will make a place for us
Refrain
Offer up your shoes and shirt
Turn your cheek! Turn your cheek!
Bear the yoke of love and death
The Lord will give all life and breath
Refrain
