“Certain Gerton” and “Automatic Abernathy”
Lisa Gerton (left), still referred to by some as “Certain Gerton”, put
together a record-setting streak of 31 straight free throws made during the
1994-95 season. Her mark for perfection stood until 2000-01, when Alicia
Abernathy drained 33 in a row to take over the title as the program’s most
consistent shooter. During her run, Abernathy tied the Conference USA
record for free throw percentage in a game with an 11-for-11 night versus
St. John’s.
