NAIROBI WATER POLICY PUBLIC
CONSULTATION FORUM
The Company recently participated in Water Policy Public Consultation Forum convened by Nairobi City County Government at Nyayo
Stadium aimed at receiving input from the public on the proposed Water
Policy.
Nairobi City County Executive Committee in charge of Environment, Water and Energy Eng. Kimori Maranga said the County Government is committed to taking bold measures aimed at realizing access to
water and sanitation services as spelt out in Kenya’s economic blueprint.
“Achievement of Kenya’s development blueprint, Vision 2030, depends
fundamentally on what happens in our City. It is as such we have recommended the implementation of the County Water and Sanitation Policy
2016.” He said.
H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta, awards NCWSC Board Chairman Raphael
Nzomo MBS Best Stand in Water & Waste Water Services trophy won by
the Company during the 2016 Nairobi International Trade Fair.

The Company recently won Best Stand in Water & Waste Waters
Services trophy in the Nairobi International Trade Fair (2016) which is the
largest Trade Fair in the East African Region.
The seven day event offered opportunities for regional, continental and global exhibitors to display and demonstrate their services and products. Visitors had an opportunity to meet people from different countries and
backgrounds, hence creating a platform for interaction and exchanging of
ideas and experiences.
In line with the theme ‘Enhancing Technology in Agriculture and
Industry for Food Security and National Growth’, NCWSC won Best Stand
in Water & Waste Waters Services. The Board Chairman, Raphael Nzomo
(MBS) was awarded the trophy by HE. Hon Uhuru Kenyatta on behalf of the
Company.
Nairobi County Governor, Dr. Evans Kidero paid a visit to the
Company stand and was taken through Company operations. Dr. Kidero
applauded the Company for its various technological innovations. Board
Members Rosemary Khamati and MD, Eng. Philip Gichuki expressed their
utmost support towards the good work that was demonstrated by staff during the event.

Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Ltd Board Chairman, Raphael Nzomo said the policy is a step in the right direction as it will
help address the teething issues experienced by the Company in discharging its mandate of providing water and sewerage to the residents of Nairobi
City County.
Managing Director Eng. Philip Gichuki said the Company has
gone out of its way to embrace innovations at informal settlement citing the
water dispensers that have facilitated access to clean and affordable water
for the inhabitants.
This policy provides guidelines on the management of water and
sanitation services within Nairobi City County with the goal of facilitating
equitable, adequate and quality access to water and sanitation services.
The policy also provides the framework for efficiency in water resource
management; ensures security and integrity of water and sanitation systems; and defines institutional structures to effectively implement policy.
In attendance were Christine Ogut, Chief Officer in charge of
Water, Eng. Robert Gakubia, Water Services Regulatory Board Chief Executive Officer and officials from the Ministry of Water and Irrigation.

NCWSC MARKS MASHUJAA DAY IN STYLE
NCWSC choir paid a visit to the Busia County Commissioner Mr.
Jelimo on the eve of the fete who received them saying their visit was a show
of love and patriotism for their country.
Mashujaa Day celebrations was held at Busia County Stadium and
presided over by the County Commissioner who asked the residents to observe the national holiday by maintaining peaceful co-existence with the
Kenyans from all walks of life.
The Company choir officially opened the ceremony by reciting the
National Anthem and later entertained the participants with songs themed on
national cohesion, peace and unity.
In pursuit of the Company’s CSR, the choir members donated
foodstuff to the Busia Compassionate Children’s home, an orphanage in rural
Western Kenya that offers hope to orphans and vulnerable children who face
extreme poverty and who have been abandoned, defiled and neglected.

The Company choir and traditional dancers recently joined the
rest of the Kenyans at Busia County and Nakuru County respectively to mark
the just concluded Mashujaa Day celebrations.
"Heroes Day," as the Swahili word "mashujaa" means "heroes"
was originally called Kenyatta Day in honour of Kenya's first president, Jomo
Kenyatta, but the name was changed after the 2010 constitution was adopted in an effort to expand the day's meaning from honoring only those who
took part in the independence movement from Britain to honoring all of Kenya's heroes.
The Company traditional dancers demonstrated mastery and skill
as they gracefully performed their famous Borana song and dance. The
event that normally falls on October 20th gave the group an opportunity to
showcase an epitome of creativity, which in turn earned them respect from
other participants who turned up in large numbers to perform at Afraha Stadium, Nakuru County.
Nakuru County Governor Kinuthia Mbugua ,who was the chief
guest and and his Deputy Governor Joseph Ruto applauded the team for a
job well done.

The fourth Sasumua Dam half marathon slated for 12th November, 2016 registration was officially launched by NCWSC Board Chairman,
Raphael Nzomo, who was the chief guest during the ceremony held in Nyandarua County. He welcomed participants both local and international to take
part.
Under the theme” Running for water and conservation” MD Eng.
Gichuki said he expects over 3000 participants to grace this year’s event,
this will include a number of elite runners including Kenyan legends like
Henry Wanyoike and Catherine Ndereba.
Also in attendance was CEC Water, Nyandarua County, Grace
Gitonga who acknowledged tireless efforts by the Company in creating
awareness on water conservation as well as preservation of catchment areas.
