Honor Roll of Macomb County Men Who Lost Their Lives In
Service During WWI
Blondeel, Kamiel
Son of Charles and Elodie Blondeel, of Warren, was born in Belgium, April 21 1898. He
entered the service at Camp Custer November 2, 1917. Killed in action in France, October 17,
1918, while serving with Company H, Seventh U.S. Infantry. Buried in Plot G, Row 25, Grave
18, Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery, Romagne, France.
Bock, Charles Ernest
Son of Henry and Anna Bock of Halfway, was born October 9, 1894. He entered the service at
Camp Custer and died of wounds received in action in Froidos, France, October 4, 1918, while
serving with Company D, 126th U.S. Infantry. Buried in St. Peter Cemetery, Eastpointe,
Michigan.
Boeling, Gerhardt J.
Son of Ferdinand and Minnie Boeling of Mount Clemens, was born February 10, 1897 and
died in 1918. Buried in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Macomb Township.
Chamberlin, Edgar E.
Son of William W. Chamberlin, of Mount Clemens, was born April 13, 1893. He enlisted in
Quartermaster's Division at Detroit December 1, 1917, and died January 13, 1918, at Fort Sam
Houston, Texas, after an operation for appendicitis. Buried in Clinton Grove Cemetery,
section I-19.
Conner, Clarence F.
Son of Edward and Jennie Conner of Mount Clemens, was born May 10, 1891. A member of
the State Militia at the outbreak of the war, he was commissioned as a Lieutenant, and died in
England, December 3, 1918. Buried in Clinton Grove Cemetery, section C-96.
DeVriese, Henry Archie
Son of Achille and Mathilde DeVriese of Mount Clemens, was born May 2, 1896. He entered
the service at Camp Custer September 19, 1917, and was later transferred to Company E,
125th U.S. Infantry. He died in France from wounds received in battle August 10, 1918. Buried
in Plot B., Row 8, Grave 26, St. Mihiel American Cemetery, Thiaucourt, France.
Dietz, Glen Alfred
Son of Frank G. Dietz, of Shelby Township. Served with the 57th Coast Artillery Regiment.
Died in France October 31, 1918. Buried in Plot B, Row 19, Grave 14, Meuse-Argonne
American Cemetery, Romagne, France.
Engelman, Walter Frederick
Son of Herman and Anna Engelman, of Mount Clemens, was born January 21, 1895. He
entered the service at Camp Custer November 19, 1917, as a private in Company E, 338th
Infantry. He was advanced to Corporal and was transferred to Company H, 39th Infantry, 4th
Division, and was sent overseas May 1918. Killed in action October 10, 1918. Buried in
Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Macomb Township.
Farrand, Ray
Son of William T. Farrand, of Armada, was born November 19, 1890, and died of disease in
Russia in 1918. Buried in Willow Grove Cemetery, Richmond Township.
Ferris, William Caswell
Son of Sherwood A. and Lucy Ferris, of New Baltimore, was born July 14, 1898. He enlisted in
the U.S. Marine Corps April 30, 1917. He was advanced to Corporal January 1, 1918, and was
killed in action at Belleau Wood, France, June 4, 1918.
Ford, Harry
Of Richmond, born June 12, 1893. Died October 15, 1918. Buried in Richmond Cemetery.
Forton, Arthur Clifford
Son of Peter and Clara Forton, of Mount Clemens, was born August 1, 1889, and enlisted in
Co. F, 105th Infantry in May, 1917. He was killed in action at St. Maurice River in France
October 29, 1918. Buried April 30, 1921 in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery, Clinton Township.
Fraley, John A.
Son of Edward Fraley, of Richmond, born 1899 and died in 1918. Member of Company I, 16th
Infantry Divison. Buried in St. Michael Cemetery.
Frede, Arthur
Son of August and Anna of Chesterfield, was born December 29, 1892. Sent to Camp Custer
September, 1917. Killed in action in France September 5, 1918.
Frederick, Goy L.
Son of Mrs. Addie Frederick of Armada, born in 1894, died in 1919. Member of Company C.,
1st Infantry Division. Buried in Willow Grove Cemetery, Richmond Township.
Frink, Edward Charles
Son of Edward and Mary Frink of Sterling Township, was born May 5, 1894. Entered service
at Camp Custer September, 1917. Went overseas in February, 1918, and was assigned to the
32nd Division. He was killed at Chateau Thierry, France, August 1, 1918. Buried in Plot B,
Row 15, Grave 14, Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Fere-en-Tardenois, France.
Gaudy, Ray M.
Son of August Gaudy, of Utica, was born October 7,1888, and was killed in France.
Gietzen, William Ferdinand
Son of Nicholas Gietzen of Warren, was born February 23, 1896. Served with the 128th
Infantry Regiment, 32nd Infantry Division. Died August 29, 1918. Buried in Plot D, Row 40,
Grave 18, Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Fere-en-Tardenois, France.
Heine, Bernhardt E.
Son of Edward A. and Augusta E. Heine of Mount Clemens, was born February 15, 1895. He
enlisted with the Calumet Engineers, 33rd Michigan Infantry, June 4th, 1916, and was
transferred to the Aviation Section, Signal Corps, U.S.A., August 4, 1917. Commissioned
Lieutenant May 6, 1918. Fatally injured in airplane accident at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, August 2,
1918 and died August 10. Buried in Clinton Grove Cemetery, section K-47.
Henning, William Robert
Son of William and Wilhelmina Henning, of Chesterfield, born January 13, 1894 and killed in
action in France on August 1, 1918, while serving with Company D, 126th Infantry. Buried in
Clinton Grove Cemetery, section K-10.
Howell, James Lynn
Son of Mrs. C. Viola Hull, of New Haven. Died of wounds received at the battle of the Marne
on July 16, 1918. Buried in New Haven Cemetery, August 1921.
Hunter, Alger Russell
Son of A.C. and Allie Hunter of Mount Clemens, was born August 28, 1890. He enlisted with
the National Guard of Detroit February 1916, and was afterwards transferred to the 32nd
Division. He was sent overseas in February, 1918, and was wounded in action July 29, 1918,
dying August 21. Buried in Plot C, Row 14, Grave 26, Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Fereen-Tardenois, France.
Jannus, Roger W.
Was born December 25, 1886, and enlisted in the service April 1917. He was transferred to the
air service, and was killed at Issoudun, France, September 4, 1918.
Keehn (Kuehn), Paul Richard.
Son of Louis and Ernestine Keehn, of Mount Clemens, was born April 11, 1892, and died of
pneumonia at Waco, Texas, November 17, 1917. Buried in section K-155, Clinton Grove
Cemetery.
LaForge, Edward Peter
Son of Edward LaForge of Washington. Died October 25, 1918. Buried in Plot A, Row 22,
Grave 17, Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Fere-en-Tardenois, France.
McGovern, Thomas J.
Was born August 6, 1885. He entered the first Officers' Training Camp from Mount Clemens
in the summer of 1917. He was invalided home with a heart ailment and died December 1,
1917. Buried in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery, Clinton Township.
Meyer, John A.
Of Warren, born June 22, 1890. Killed in action in France on July 15, 1918. Buried in St.
Clement's Cemetery.
Miller, John C.
Son of William and Sophia Miller of Mount Clemens, was born March 20, 1895. He enlisted at
Selfridge Field as a private of the 40th Aero Squadron and was killed by falling from a truck
in Mount Clemens April 10, 1918. Buried in Clinton Grove Cemetery, section E-46.
Milton, Jesse
Son of Frank and Jennie Milton, of Lenox, was born April 25, 1891. He entered the service at
Camp Custer July 24, 1918, and died there of pneumonia, October 10, 1918.
Moldenhauer, Edward F.
Son of Charles and Carrie Moldenhauer, of Halfway, was born March 18, 1892, and died of
disease in the service at Romsey, England, October 28, 1918. Buried at Moran Hill Cemetery,
England.
Moore, Jesse B.
Son of Willis Moore, of Utica, died at Camp Custer on January 8, 1918.
Nicolai, August
Son of Fred and Minnie Nicolai, of Mount Clemens, was born August 26, 1902. He enlisted
with the 20th Battalion of the Canadian Army and died of wounds received in action in
France on September 19, 1918. Buried at Aubigny Communal Cemetery Extension, Pas de
Calais, France.
Ollrich, Harry John
Son of Henry and Mary Ollrich, of Mount Clemens, was born September 2, 1892, and entered
the service at Camp Custer September 6, 1917. He was sent overseas in February, 1918, and
was killed in action at Fismes, France, August 4, 1918. He received the Distinguished Service
Cross and Croix de Guerre for bravery. The American Legion Post #4 in Mount Clemens is
named in his memory. Buried in Clinton Grove Cemetery, section B-111.
Ormsby, Howard E.
Son of Charles and Elizabeth Ormsby, of Armada, was born August 8, 1893, and entered the
service at Great Lakes Naval Training Station, where he died September 28, 1918. Buried in
Willow Grove Cemetery, Richmond Township.
Parrott, Jesse F.
Son of Fred Parrott of Mount Clemens, was born January 1, 1893, and entered the service at
Camp Custer May 27, 1918. He was sent to Russia with the 339th Infantry and died at
Archangel September 25, 1918, of pneumonia. Buried in Clinton Grove Cemetery, section B79.
Peltier, Elmer F.
Son of ? of Mount Clemens, was born May 10, 1895, and entered the service at Camp
Sherman, Chillicothe, Ohio, where he died October 9, 1918. Buried in St. Peter Catholic
Cemetery, Clinton Township.
Pierce, Ralph Henry
Son of George and Myrtle Pierce, of Armada, was born February 3, 1897, and entered the
service at Columbus Barracks December, 1917. He died at Camp Grant, Rockford, Ill., January
18, 1918. Buried in Willow Grove Cemetery, Richmond Township.
Pratt, Elias
Son of Luther Albert Pratt and Rosetta Trumble Pratt of Armada, was born in October, 1888.
Died at Camp Custer, October 10, 1918. Buried in Willow Grove Cemetery, Richmond
Township.
Reep, Earl Lester
Son of Thomas Reep of Mount Clemens, was born..... He enlisted in the Navy and served
aboard the U.S.S. Nevada. He died in the hospital ship Mercy May 29, 1918, of spinal
meningitis.
Reid, Neil Warrenner
Son of James Melvin and Mary Warrenner Reid, was born at Warren June 15, 1899. He
enlisted with the 31st Regiment Michigan National Guard September 21, 1917. He was
transferred to Company G, 126th Michigan Infantry, 32nd Division, and was made Corporal.
He was killed in action in France August 2, 1918.
Rickert, Albert F.
Son of Moritz and Frederice Rickert, of Mount Clemens, was born January 16, 1889. He
entered the service at Camp Custer May 27, 1918, and went to Russia with the 339th Infantry,
were he died of pneumonia September 4, 1918. Buried in Clinton Grove Cemetery, section I44.
Rieck, Victor Immanuel
Son of Herman Julius and Augusta Malow Rieck of Utica, was born March 7, 1894, and died
in 1918. The American Legion Post #351 in Utica is named in his memory. Buried in Utica
Cemetery.
Schoof, Clark Walter
Son of William L. and Wilhelmina Schoof of Washington, was born January 9, 1896, and
entered the service at Camp Custer, September 19, 1917. He was killed at Chateau Thierry,
France, August 1, 1918. Buried in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Macomb Township.
Seifert, Herbert Joseph
Son of August and Caroline Seifert, of New Baltimore, was born June 18, 1892, and entered
the service at Camp Custer. Died in the service in France October 26, 1918.
Stevens, Ormal Dewey
Son of Ormal B. Stevens and Sarah Stevens of Warren, was born December 3, 1898. He
enlisted with the U.S. Marines in January, 1918. Was trained at Parris Island, S.C., where he
became sergeant. He was sent to France in May, 1918, and died from wounds received in the
battle of the Marne, July 19, 1918. Buried in Warren Union Cemetery.
Streubuehr, Herman
Son of Charles Streubuehr of Washington was born December 24, 1894. Killed in action
September 1, 1918.
Stricker, Alexander John.
Son of Jacob and Pauline Stricker, of Halfway, was born November 12, 1892, and killed in
action in France.
Sullivan, Leo
Son of Daniel and Mary Sullivan of Richmond, was born July 12, 1890, and was killed in
action at Chateau Thierry in France on October 5, 1918. His body was returned home for
burial on July 23, 1921.
Thimian, Edward W.
Son of John and Anna Thimian, was born August 18, 1892, at Warren. Entered the service at
Camp Custer July 13, 1918 and died there October 13, 1918. Buried in Warren Union
Cemetery.
