born in the wrong era and fancy
stepping back to a time when life
was more gentle and when women
were elegant and so were the men!
Well, join John, Karl and Lynette as
we invite you to the famous Art Deco
Festival in Napier.
The Art Deco Festival is something to experience and
combining it with a group of musically minded, mad
people, escorted by our mad singers makes it even more
captivating and thrilling!
Everyone is dressed up. If you feel a bit nervous about
dressing up and standing out in the crowd, don’t be! In
fact you are the odd one out if you don’t dress up. Even
down to the smallest child and teenagers, everyone gets
into the spirit of the festival. Roads are closed off and the
streets are filled with people wandering, with entertainers,
bands playing and vintage cars. With the backdrop of the
magnificent Art Deco buildings, the beach and the sound
shell, like a time machine we are literally transported back
to the 1930’s!
Day 1: Friday 17 Feb 2017 (High Tea, D)
We
arrive from various places around NZ this morning.
We store the luggage on arrival at the hotel if necessary.
HIGHLIGHTS include:
• G et dressed up when you arrive because at 11.30
we are picked up by exclusive, luxury 1930’s vintage
cars to begin a tour of Napier. Tour includes Art Deco
Quarter, historic Port Ahuriri, a delightfully quaint Art
Deco residential suburb, and includes visits to the
world renowned Municipal Theatre and the iconic
National Tobacco Company building.
• Enjoy
vintage high tea, complete with bubbles, at the
sound shell whilst crooner Peter Urlich entertains us!

• Time
to wander, rest and settle in.

Banquet, a corner stone gala event of the
festival where we enjoy a scrumptious buffet dinner
alongside entertainment from the band plus fabulous
views of the flying displays in the sky above the beach
from 7.45pm. (Subject to availability).
We mix up our own special events with the local festivities
presented by the Art Deco festival, ranging from private
concerts, large scale dinner events, exclusive historic house
tours, high tea parties and wine tastings – even a vintage car
tour. We stay right in town which means we are located in
the centre of it all. This means you can wander, rest, revel,
whatever you wish!
This weekend is a lovely blend of fun, music, socialising
and dressing up with Napier’s Art Deco weekend and
Operatunity combining in perfect harmony!
Please note that some activities are subject to change as
we base this tour upon 2016 programming which we have
been advised will be similar for the 2017 festival. As always
we will replace with something of equal excitement and
value if necessary.

DAY 2: Saturday 18 Feb 2017 (B, D)
HIGHLIGHTS include:
• Free day to enjoy all the activities of the festival,
including all day music in the sound shell, vintage car
parade, antique fairs, wandering and soaking up the
atmosphere, shopping, plus your choice of special
events. A full programme will be sent to you as soon
as it is launched.
• Time
to put on the glad rags this evening! In 2016 the
festival put on the opera La Boheme at the Municipal
Theatre. Dependent upon availability we will go
to the opera or to the Trinity Hill Black Tie Gala,
a sumptuous, glittering evening of fine wine, food,
music, and company.
DAY 3: Sunday 19 February 2017

HIGHLIGHTS include:
• A
morning at leisure to lie in, wander the activities or
go to the special Art Deco church service.
DAY 4: Monday 20th February 2017
(B, Morn. Tea, Aft Tea, D)
HIGHLIGHTS include:
• A full day tour out of Napier today including late
morning tea at Mangapapa Hotel, former homestead
of James Wattie and wine tasting at Te Mata Estate.

tour to Takapau to Oruawharo Homestead,
a mansion, built in 1879, for afternoon tea, personal
tour with the owners and our event An Elegant Affair
with concert and dinner in the historic chapel.
DAY 5: Tuesday 21 February 2017 (B, L)
HIGHLIGHTS include:
• M ission
Estate for our own wine tour of this famous
estate followed by lunch on the verandah, enjoying
sweeping views of Napier city and the coast beyond.

our wine tasting and lunch we are
transferred to the airport for our various flights
around New Zealand, full of wine, food and fantastic
memories of our Art Deco weekend.
