Directions: Read about the metric system. Before answering a question, HIGHLIGHT the answer in the reading.
How tall is a skyscraper? How heavy is a polar bear? How
long will the movie in science class last? The answer to all
three questions might be the same -- 1000. Does that
answer make sense to you? It shouldn’t because
something very important is missing -- the UNITS!
When you make and record measurements, you must also
record the units that describe the measurements.
Otherwise, measurements have no meaning. It answers
the question 1,000 what? For example: a skyscraper
could be 1,000 feet tall. A polar bear might weight
1,000 pounds. A movie in class could last 1,000 seconds.
