PREPARATION
Let us remember that we are in the holy presence of God.
All Amen.
A period of silence is kept.
Grace, mercy and peace
from God our Father
and the Lord Jesus Christ
be with you all.
All And also with you.
OPENING SONG
Immortal, Invisible - John Roberts, Walter Chalmers Smith
Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
in light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
most blessèd, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
almighty, victorious, thy great name we praise.
Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might;
thy justice, like mountains, high soaring above
thy clouds, which are fountains of goodness and love.
To all, life thou givest, to both great and small;
in all life thou livest, the true life of all;
we blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,
and wither and perish -- but naught changeth thee.

God Meets Us
“In Our Stillness”
Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,
thine angels adore thee, all veiling their sight;
all praise we would render; O help us to see
’tis only the splendor of light hideth thee.
OPENING RESPONSORIAL
God is our refuge and strength,
All a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear,
though the earth should change,
though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;
though its waters roar and foam.
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy habitation of the Most High.
God is in the midst of the city;
it shall not be moved;
God will help it when the morning dawns.
“Be still, and know that I am God!”
from Psalm 46
PRAYER OF ADORATION AND THANKSGIVING
DOXOLOGY — Francis of Assisi, Jonathan Gilley
All ye who are of tender heart,
forgiving others take your part.
Sing his praises, Alleluia!
Ye, who long pain and sorrow bear,
praise God and on him cast your care!
O praise him! O praise him!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Let all things their creator bless,
and worship him in humbleness,
O praise him, Alleluia!
Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son,
and praise the Spirit three in one,
O praise him! O praise him!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
His oath, his covenant, his blood
support me in the whelming flood;
when all around my soul gives way,
he then is all my hope and stay.
When he shall come with trumpet sound,
O may I then in him be found,
dressed in his righteousness alone,
faultless to stand before the throne.
CONFESSION OF SIN
All God of wholeness,
we struggle to be still.
Instead we are often restless,
lost in the noise around and within us,
busy with anxious toil,
deaf to you and to each other.
Still our fragmented hearts before you
that we might find wholeness in you.

THE WORD OF GOD
May the God who truly sees you
let his shine his face upon you,
cleanse you from your sins,
give you peace in the place of anxiety,
and restore you in his holiness
that you might behold his beauty,
be still in his presence,
and find wholeness in worshipping Him.
All Amen.
SONGS OF PRAISE AND THANKSGIVING
Come Light Our Hearts - Sandra McCracken
For you, O Lord, our souls in stillness wait,
for you, O Lord, our souls in stillness wait,
truly our hope is in you, truly our hope is in you.
O Lord of life, our only hope,
your radiance shines
on all who look to you in the dark;
Emmanuel come, come light our hearts.
O Joy above all other loves,
in you we find more than enough.
We come as we are, O heal and restore,
come light our hearts.

My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less - Edward Mote
My hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
On Christ, the solid rock, I stand;
all other ground is sinking sand,
all other ground is sinking sand.
The peace of the Lord be with you always.
All And also with you.
Let us offer one another a sign of peace.
Children attending kindergarten and younger are invited to go to
their classes at this time. Children in 1st and 2nd grades are invited
to Children’s Church and will return during the Offering.
Old Testament reading: 1 Kings 19:9-18
At that place Elijah came to a cave, and spent the night
there. Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, “What
are you doing here, Elijah?” 10He answered, “I have been very
zealous for the Lord, the God of hosts; for the Israelites have
forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed
your prophets with the sword. I alone am left, and they are
seeking my life, to take it away.” 11He said, “Go out and stand
on the mountain before the Lord, for the Lord is about to
pass by.” Now there was a great wind, so strong that it was
splitting mountains and breaking rocks in pieces before the
Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind
an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; 12and
after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire;
and after the fire a sound of sheer silence. 13When Elijah
heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and
stood at the entrance of the cave. Then there came a voice
to him that said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 14He
answered, “I have been very zealous for the Lord, the God of
hosts; for the Israelites have forsaken your covenant, thrown
down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword.
I alone am left, and they are seeking my life, to take it away.”
15
Then the Lord said to him, “Go, return on your way to the
wilderness of Damascus; when you arrive, you shall anoint
Hazael as king over Aram. 16Also you shall anoint Jehu son
of Nimshi as king over Israel; and you shall anoint Elisha
son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah as prophet in your place.
17
Whoever escapes from the sword of Hazael, Jehu shall kill;
and whoever escapes from the sword of Jehu, Elisha shall
kill. 18Yet I will leave seven thousand in Israel, all the knees
that have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not
kissed him.”
9
This is the Word of the Lord.
All Thanks be to God.
When darkness veils his lovely face,
I rest on his unchanging grace;
in every high and stormy gale
my anchor holds within the veil.

Gospel reading: Mark 4:35-41
Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ
according to Mark.
All Glory to you, O Lord.
CREED
All I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
On that day, when evening had come, Jesus said to his
disciples, “Let us go across to the other side.” 36And leaving
the crowd behind, they took him with them in the boat,
just as he was. Other boats were with him. 37A great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that the
boat was already being swamped. 38But he was in the stern,
asleep on the cushion; and they woke him up and said to
him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” 39He
woke up and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace!
Be still!” Then the wind ceased, and there was a dead calm.
40
He said to them, “Why are you afraid? Have you still no
faith?” 41And they were filled with great awe and said to one
another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea
obey him?”
35
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
Amen.
This is the Gospel of the Lord.
All Praise to you, O Christ.

Our Song in the Night - Michael van Patter
In the darkness, can you hear us?
When the night comes, are we alone?
Have you forgotten all of your children?
When we remember you, we groan.
But our hearts cannot be silent,
O God, be our song in the night,
when the light is gone,
God, be our hope, be our strength,
be our sheltering place,
our song in the night.
We are broken—are we forsaken?
Has your love gone down with the sun?
And your mercy through all history,
is it abandoned and undone?
But our hearts cannot be silent,
Your road, it led me down to the Red Sea;
the waters trembled, and you made a way.
You raised your arm and led me to dry land;
Lord, will you hear us when we say
that our hearts cannot be silent,

PRAYERS
Members of the congregation lead us in prayer.
Father, calmer of our hearts,
we are too often deaf to your voice.
Still our lost and overwhelmed hearts
that we might hear and be found in you.
For this, O Lord, we pray:
All Lord, hear our prayer.
Jesus, stiller of storms,
meet us in the chaos that surrounds us.
In the noise of pride and polarization, still us
that we might humbly listen and boldly love.
For this, O Lord, we pray:
All Lord, hear our prayer.

COMMUNION SONG
Up on a Mountain - Vito Aiuto
Up on a mountain our Lord is alone,
without a family, friends or a home.
He cries, Ooh, ooh, ooh,
will you stay with me?
He cries, Oh, oh, oh,
will you wait with me?
Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah - William Williams
Guide me, O thou great Jehovah,
pilgrim through this barren land.
I am weak, but thou art mighty;
hold me with thy powerful hand.
Bread of heaven, bread of heaven,
feed me till I want no more;
feed me till I want no more.
Open now the crystal fountain,
whence the healing stream doth flow;
let the fire and cloudy pillar
lead me all my journey through.
Strong deliverer, strong deliverer,
be thou still my strength and shield;
be thou still my strength and shield.
When I tread the verge of Jordan,
bid my anxious fears subside;
death of deaths, and hell’s destruction,
land me safe on Canaan’s side.
Songs of praises, songs of praises,
I will ever give to thee;
I will ever give to thee.
BENEDICTION
DISMISSAL
Let us go forth to serve the world as those who love our
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
All Thanks be to God. Up on a mountain our Lord is afraid,
carrying all the mistakes we have made,
and he knew, ooh, ooh,
it’s a long way down.
Do you know, oh, oh,
it’s a long way down?
Up in the heavens our Lord prays for you;
he sent his Spirit to carry us through
so it’s true, ooh, ooh,
that you’re not alone.
Do you know, oh, oh,
he came all the way down?
We give thanks to you, Jesus,
for the hope this meal represents:
healing in our wounds, hope in our despair,
feasting amidst famine, life in our dying,
Form us ever more in your likeness
that we might display you as the hope of the world.
Amen.

Gospel reading: Mark 4:35-41
Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ
according to Mark.
All Glory to you, O Lord.
CREED
All I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

But our hearts cannot be silent,
Your road, it led me down to the Red Sea;
the waters trembled, and you made a way.
You raised your arm and led me to dry land;
Lord, will you hear us when we say
that our hearts cannot be silent,
