We will begin our analyzing text features
unit for nonfiction this week. Our read
aloud is Morning Meals Around the World.
In vocabulary we will continue unit IV
suffixes. This week’s suffix is –ful
meaning “full of”. Please continue working
on the Words Their Ways sorts with your
child at home. The more they work with
the words and understand the patterns
the better they become at spelling! In
writing we will work on our first 4
paragraph writing assignment. Our focus
will be an informative piece with the topic
of a dream pet.
Students will work
through the steps of the writing process
to complete a final product.
We will continue our analyzing text features
unit for nonfiction this week. Our read aloud is
Reptiles. This weeks reading log will focus on
the different genres. We will read poems from
a variety of authors and continue reading The
Green Book. Our vocabulary unit will focus on
words used when talking about writing and the
prefix trans- meaning across, change. In
grammar we will be working on subject/object
pronouns. In writing we will work on a four
paragraph informational writing assignment.
Our focus will be an informative piece with the
topic of a dream pet. Students will work
through the steps of the writing process to
complete a final product.
We will be solving
analogies where students need to analyze the
elements of a puzzle, define a relationship
between two things, and then apply this
relationship to two other things. Please
continue to practice the word master words.
We have the new list and will be studying the
words by using them in a sentence, finding
synonyms, and antonyms, other forms of the
word, typical references, meanings, parts of
speech, and examples. Our next competition

Mrs. Jewell – Math
We will begin our geometry/measurement
unit this week. Since our text book
doesn’t focus on a majority of geometry
topics from common core we are going to
work on supplemental lessons. This week
our focus is on solids, lines, and angles.
On Thursday we have our second CML
contest. Students will have 30 minutes
to solve 6 critical thinking problems!
Remember My Skills Tutor and Math IXL
are great resources to practice addition,
subtraction, multiplication, and division
facts.
Students need to know their
multiplication facts through the 12’s.
This will help with both multiplication and
division problems!!
On Tuesday Mrs. Hurt will come in to
teach Hands-on Algebra. Students will
learn how to solve algebraic expressions
using manipulatives.

lab to work on Skills Tutor. My Skills Tutor and
Math IXL are great resources to practice
topics covered in class and basic facts at home,

will determine the relative pitches of
sounds produced by tubes of different
lengths.
Students will continue learning about Sound.

observe how sound travels through different
substances. Students will also begin learning
about the human body and what our organs do
for us.
